ROLE OVERVIEW

Executes general assistance and support to the Safety and Pollution Control Officer in ensuring safe practices in all controlled sites and operations, obtaining relevant support of the Department Heads and Supervisors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Waste Management Operation

• Assists in the identification of significant environmental aspects and impacts of the company’s operational activities and recommends possible mitigating measures in the formulation and/or review of the Environmental Management Plan and Contingency Plan.

• Assist in ensuring proper performance operation and maintenance of environmental management facilities or systems of the company such as:

  • Wastewater Treatment facilities
  • Air Pollution devices
  • Hazardous waste management storage areas
  • Solid waste management facilities and environmental monitoring devices

• Identifies, investigates, and monitors air, land, and water pollution within the company. Taking formal action to secure environmental improvement.

• Monitors contractors and other third-party providers concerning the delivery of environmental monitoring and other services.

• Assist in overseeing the effective maintenance of Effluent Treatment Plant facilities and equipment.

• Coordinates with Production on the treatment process of all sampling points according to quality standards. Results of Water Analysis and measures of correction.

Waste Management Services

• Assists in the conduct of managing and carrying out potential environmental prevention, control, and monitoring to protect the safety, health, and environmental effects, such as water pollution, biodiversity, and habitat degradation, through pollution prevention and controls.

Environmental Services

• Provides subject matter expertise across sites whilst driving resource, energy, and utility efficiencies.
• Assists in carrying out responsibility over environmental management systems, including audit management, procedure control, and operational management of the systems.
• Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the Environmental Permit are adhered to, including emissions and water monitoring.
• Responsible for producing and submitting Environmental Permitting notifications/ variations, driving improvement programs, and ensuring that Environmental Protection authorization requirements are met.
• Responsible for understanding the requirements and legislation of the relevant regulatory authorities, e.g., the Environment Agency, Water Authority, and communicating that information to management.
• Assists in managing, developing, maintaining, supporting, and/ or coordinating environmental and sustainable development initiatives underway in line with the Company's Strategic objectives and priorities.
• Develop and sustain local partnerships with groups, organizations, and agencies concerning the above.

Health and Safety Inspection

• Conduct regular site inspections to check that safety policies and procedures are properly implemented.
• Assists in the examination of machinery, working environments, and structures, taking measurements of noise, heat, and vibrations, and taking photographs and samples where necessary.
• Ensures workers are provided with suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as eye goggles, ear protectors, appropriate types of gloves, and clothing.
• Coordinates with the direct superior on the results of inspections and investigations.
• Keeps records of inspection findings and produces reports that suggest improvements.
• Initiates and implements safety measures in work areas.
• Inspect work area premises for hazardous elements.
• Collaborate with Departmental Heads in implementing safety processes.
• Strictly adhere to corporate safety guidelines and procedures.

Accident Investigation

• Coordinates with clinic staff to ensure that first aid treatment is provided immediately to injured employees.
• Photograph incidents and accidents. Gathers evidence, interviews workers and witnesses, and determines conditions leading to accidents or incidents.
• Assists in securing the scene and preserves evidence collected for investigation of the accident or incident.

Health and Safety Programming

• Assists the Safety and Pollution Control Officer in designing safety protocols.
• Assists in educating workers and employees on safety aspects.
• Assists safety personnel in preparing safety manuals and guidelines. Assists in Health and Safety audits and produces audit reports. Conducts follow-up of actions to be taken.
• Assists in managing the first aid center on work premises.
• Liaise closely to manage issues relating to facilities service provision, specifically waste disposal, storage, fire safety equipment inspection, and safety audit compliance.

Other Responsibilities

• Adhere to and comply with all management programs implemented by the company, including but not limited to food safety and quality management system, environmental, health, and safety regulations, sustainability initiatives, and operational excellence frameworks.
• Perform other related jobs as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A graduate of Engineering-related courses.
• With or without practical experience.
