What they need
A leading U.S.-based manufacturer of custom seating and furniture solutions for commercial and office environments is seeking an EHS Superintendent to join its growing team in Tijuana.
EHS Superintendent leads Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) execution and continuous improvement across assigned Mexico manufacturing, warehouse, and support locations. Owns day-to-day EHS management, regulatory compliance, incident response, risk reduction, and implementation of corporate EHS standards. Partners directly with Operations and Site Leadership to build operational ownership of safety, strengthen preventive controls, develop EHS capability, and ensure significant risks are identified, communicated, and addressed promptly. The role translates corporate EHS strategy into practical site-level execution and develops a culture in which leaders and employees proactively manage EHS risk as part of normal operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead implementation and sustained execution of corporate EHS policies, standards, procedures, and critical-risk programs across assigned Mexico sites.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Mexican safety, health, environmental, Civil Protection, and company requirements, including permits, licenses, environmental reporting, hazardous-waste obligations, chemical management, and required records.
- Maintain effective site-level programs for machine guarding, LOTO, powered industrial trucks, hazardous chemicals, ergonomics, emergency response, PPE, contractor safety, pedestrian safety, cutting devices / safe tool handling, and storage-rack safety.
- Lead site incident response and investigation, including immediate containment, root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, read-across implementation, and effectiveness verification; provide immediate escalation for serious injuries, high-potential events, significant environmental events, or other material risks.
- Drive a prevention-focused approach that prioritizes elimination and reduction of critical risks, effective engineering and administrative controls, and prevention of serious injuries and fatalities.
- Lead and support risk assessments for processes, equipment, facility changes, capital projects, expansions, new product/process introductions, and operational changes; ensure identified controls are implemented before risk is accepted.
- Own site execution of EASE Safety Audits, Hazard Recognition Audits, 5S-related safety elements, regulatory inspections, machine-guarding reviews, and corrective-action follow-up.
- Review EHS KPIs, incidents, near misses, first aid, property damage, recordables, audit findings, overdue actions, and risk trends; convert data into clear priorities for site leadership and the Corporate EHS function.
- Facilitate effective safety committees and recurring leadership reviews, ensuring actions have clear ownership, due dates, escalation paths, and verified closure.
- Build operational ownership of EHS by coaching supervisors, managers, and site leaders to identify, assess, control, and resolve routine risks without unnecessary dependence on the EHS function.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant professional certification preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, or industrial operations, including leadership responsibility; multi-site experience strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of Mexican EHS and environmental requirements, including applicable NOM-STPS, SEMARNAT, Civil Protection, hazardous-waste management, chemical management, and permitting / reporting obligations.
- Working knowledge of U.S. OSHA concepts and recordkeeping expectations sufficient to support corporate consistency and cross-border reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with incident investigation, root-cause analysis, CAPA, risk assessment, audit management, machine safety, LOTO, ergonomics, PIT/forklift programs, hazardous chemicals, and emergency preparedness.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management-system concepts; Internal Auditor experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical and regulatory requirements into practical operational controls and leader behaviors.
- Experience leading and developing Safety Engineers, EHS specialists, technicians, or similar professionals.
- Strong analytical capability, including KPI interpretation, trend analysis, risk prioritization, and corrective-action effectiveness evaluation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital reporting / EHS systems; experience with EASE, Power BI, Microsoft 365, or comparable platforms preferred.
- Professional English proficiency and Spanish fluency required.
