Job Summary/Purpose: The EHS Compliance Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all policies, procedures, and programs related to Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS). This hands-on role is crucial for ensuring the company's compliance with all applicable EHS laws and regulations, minimizing operational risks, and fostering a strong safety culture, with a specific focus on the hazards associated with ceramic and ink manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance & Policy Management:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies in accordance with regulations pertinent to the ceramic industry (e.g., The Factories Act, Environmental Protection Act, rules on hazardous dust and chemical management).
  • Ensure compliance with EHS management systems such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Conduct regular legal reviews to keep policies current with evolving EHS and ceramic industry standards.
  • Risk Assessment & Hazard Control (Ceramic & Ceramic Ink Specific):
  • Lead the site's program for managing exposure to respirable crystalline silica, including air monitoring, engineering controls (e.g., ventilation, wet methods), and administrative controls.
  • Conduct risk assessments (HIRA) for all processes, with a focus on dust generation (crushing, grinding, spraying), chemical handling (inks, solvents), kiln operations, and high-noise equipment.
  • Implement and oversee the chemical management program for ceramic inks, glazes, and raw materials, ensuring proper storage, handling, and use of materials containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Manage the site's hearing conservation program.
  • Ensure robust safety protocols for kiln operations, including high-temperature work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and confined space entry procedures.
  • Incident Investigation & Reporting:
  • Lead the investigation of all workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
  • Maintain all required EHS records and prepare reports for regulatory agencies and internal management, including any specific reporting for hazardous substance usage.
  • Training & Safety Culture:
  • Develop and conduct EHS training on topics including silica hazard awareness, respirator use and fit-testing, safe chemical handling, PPE, and emergency response for chemical spills and fires.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging with employees on the specific risks of their roles.
  • Environmental Management:
  • Monitor and manage kiln emissions and air quality to ensure compliance with CPCB/GPCB norms and environmental permits.
  • Oversee the management and disposal of all industrial waste streams, including hazardous waste such as waste inks, solvents, contaminated materials, and sludge from wastewater treatment.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce waste, water usage, and energy consumption.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • A government-recognized diploma in Industrial Safety is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on EHS experience in a Frits/Grits/Compound, ink manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Direct experience managing programs for silica dust control and hazardous chemical handling.
  • In-depth knowledge of Indian EHS regulations and their application in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proven experience with EHS management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
  • Certifications like NEBOSH IGC or similar are a strong advantage.
