About the role

As a Communications Officer, you will answer urgent and non-urgent calls for ambulance attendance and help coordinate the appropriate response.

  • Communicating effectively with callers, ambulance crews and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining a calm, professional and customer-focused approach in every interaction.
  • Developing a strong knowledge of locations throughout Western Australia.
  • Following established procedures, policies and Medical Priority Dispatch System requirements.

This is a challenging and rewarding role where your voice, professionalism and ability to remain composed can help support people when they need assistance most.

  • Apply sound judgement and make decisions within established guidelines.
  • Can follow structured procedures, rules and protocols consistently.
  • Demonstrate resilience, patience and a genuine commitment to helping others.
  • Work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Are committed to learning and ongoing professional development.

Previous experience in emergency communications is not essential. You must, however, be willing to complete the required induction training and accreditation.

By joining St John WA, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Make a direct difference to people when they need help most.
  • Complete induction training to achieve Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatcher accreditation through the International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch.
