1:1 Student Aide

This is a full-time position beginning ASAP. Work Hours are 7:25 - 2:16. Location is the Middle School.

• Supports and guides individual students in classroom activities assigned by teacher or support staff.

• Assists the child in the use of available instructional resources.

• Maintains awareness of Individual Education Plan for child assigned to.

• Communicates effectively with classroom teacher and support staff whom they come in contact with through daily events.

• Escorts student when necessary, between classes and provides support in special area classes as warranted.

• Fosters independence in the student and empowers them to advocate for themselves.

• Assists the student in problem-solving, organizational skills and dealing more appropriately with peers and adults in social situations.

• Assists with classroom activities as directed by teacher.

• Assists children with arrival and departure problems involving coats, boots, and lunches.

• Helps keep supplies and materials in order.

• Helps prepare materials for their use.

• Cleans up and puts away materials after use.

• Assists with lunch, snack and cleanup routines.

• Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or specific information about the individual student.

• Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.

• Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about student as is expected of fully licensed teachers.

• Assists the student to and from the special bus at the beginning and end of day as needed.

• Assists the student in personal hygiene and lavatory needs as needed.

• Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.

• Performs other duties as assigned by classroom teacher when their individual student is working independently

Job Qualifications

• High School Diploma, additional training in the area of human services preferred.

• The ability to work with and to follow the instructions of the teacher.

• Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed
