About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated 1st Year Apprentice Chef to join the culinary team at Geonbae in Hastings, Victoria. This is a full-time apprenticeship position that offers an exciting opportunity to launch your career in professional cooking within a dynamic hospitality environment. As a 1st Year Apprentice Chef, you will work under the guidance of experienced chefs, developing fundamental cooking skills, learning food safety practices, and gaining hands-on experience in a professional kitchen. Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and quality standards under supervision
• Assist senior chefs with food preparation, including chopping, mixing, and organising ingredients
• Maintain a clean and organised work station, adhering to strict food safety and hygiene standards
• Learn and follow proper food handling procedures to prevent contamination and ensure food safety compliance
• Assist with stock rotation and inventory management within the kitchen
• Support the kitchen team during service, responding promptly to requests and maintaining efficiency
• Participate in training sessions and on-the-job learning to develop culinary skills and knowledge
• Help with basic plating and presentation of dishes according to establishment standards
• Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a collaborative kitchen environment

• Reliable, punctual, and committed to attending all scheduled shifts and training sessions
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

• Basic numeracy and literacy skills to support learning during the apprenticeship
• A positive attitude and openness to receiving feedback and constructive criticism
• Preferably some prior kitchen experience or hospitality background, though not essential for motivated candidates
