World Explorers Foundation | Brooklyn, NY

Job Type: Part-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Afterschool Hours
Hours: 15–20 hours per week

About the Position

World Explorers Foundation is seeking an experienced early childhood educator to lead our 3K/4K afterschool classroom in Brooklyn. This position is ideal for a candidate with specialized experience working with preschool-aged children who can create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.

The 3K/4K Educational Consultant serves as the lead counselor for the group, guiding daily activities, maintaining active supervision, and supporting children's social, emotional, and developmental needs. The consultant also models effective classroom management, age-appropriate routines, and early childhood best practices for fellow counselors.

The successful candidate will work closely with the site supervisor to support classroom operations, maintain required staff-to-child ratios, and contribute to a positive experience for children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily supervision and activities of the 3K/4K afterschool group.
  • Plan and facilitate engaging, developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 3–4.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Apply effective classroom management strategies and establish consistent routines.
  • Model early childhood best practices and provide practical guidance to assisting counselors.
  • Maintain required staff-to-child ratios in accordance with applicable NYC DOH School-Age Child Care (SACC) requirements.
  • Communicate classroom needs, incidents, and daily updates to the site supervisor.
  • Support children's social-emotional development, positive peer interactions, and growing independence.
  • Collaborate with the site team to ensure smooth transitions and consistent program operations.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet at least one of the following qualification pathways for the applicable NYC DOH SACC Group Teacher standard:

Pathway 1: Associate's Degree

  • An associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.

Pathway 2: CDA Credential

  • A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or another credential recognized by the appropriate regulatory authority for the preschool developmental period; and
  • At least one year of experience related to caring for children.

Pathway 3: College Coursework and Plan of Study

  • At least nine college credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field;
  • A documented plan of study leading to a CDA credential, another recognized preschool-specific credential, or an associate's degree in a related field; and
  • At least two years of experience related to caring for children.

Candidates must provide documentation supporting their qualifications, such as academic transcripts, credentials, and verifiable employment records, as applicable, before placement in the role. Final eligibility is subject to applicable regulatory requirements and review of supporting documentation.

Schedule and Reporting Structure

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, during afterschool hours aligned with the school's dismissal schedule.
  • Hours: Approximately 15–20 hours per week.
  • Location: Brooklyn, NY.
  • Reports To: Site Supervisor.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced, hands-on early childhood professional who understands the developmental needs of 3- and 4-year-old children. They demonstrate strong classroom management, sound judgment, reliable communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with other educators while taking responsibility for their assigned group.
