Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Production Supervisor to lead third-shift operations across printing, lamination, slitting, and pouch production.
This position requires a strong floor leader who can manage production priorities, identify opportunities for improvement, implement effective process changes, and develop employees. The supervisor will be responsible for building an accountable team while improving safety, quality, productivity, and overall shift performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise third-shift production across printing, lamination, slitting, and pouch operations.
- Assign employees and adjust staffing based on production priorities, employee qualifications, and equipment availability.
- Maintain a visible presence on the production floor, providing direction and resolving issues as they arise.
- Monitor production schedules and coordinate with operators, maintenance, quality, and material handling to address constraints.
- Identify and implement improvements that reduce scrap, downtime, changeover time, and inefficient use of labor.
- Use production data and floor observations to identify root causes, establish corrective actions, and verify results.
- Engage employees in problem-solving and encourage ideas that improve daily operations.
- Establish consistent work practices and sustain improvements through training, documentation, and follow-up.
- Evaluate employee skills and performance, identify training needs, and establish clear development goals.
- Provide regular feedback, recognize strong performance, and address performance gaps through coaching and accountability.
- Coordinate cross-training to strengthen shift coverage and prepare employees for advancement.
- Ensure employees follow job specifications, operating procedures, and required quality checks.
- Enforce safety standards, housekeeping expectations, GMPs, and applicable SQF food-packaging requirements.
- Manage attendance, work assignments, breaks, and employee concerns consistently with company policies.
- Ensure production records, downtime reporting, scrap reporting, and shift handoffs are accurate and complete.
- Communicate significant safety, quality, equipment, staffing, and scheduling concerns promptly to plant leadership.
Qualifications
- Previous manufacturing supervisory or leadership experience required.
- Experience in flexible packaging, flexographic printing, lamination, slitting, or pouch converting strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to identify improvement opportunities and successfully implement process changes.
- Proven ability to coach, train, and develop manufacturing employees.
- Strong communication, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to oversee multiple departments and prioritize competing production needs.
- Experience using production metrics to improve quality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Ability to read production schedules, work orders, specifications, and operating procedures.
- Basic computer skills and experience entering or reviewing production information.
- Experience with continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and standardized work preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or leadership training preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
- Availability to work third shift, including overtime and weekends as production needs require.
What Success Looks Like
A safe, organized, productive shift where employees understand expectations, receive consistent feedback, and have opportunities to develop. The successful supervisor will take ownership of shift performance, follow through on improvements, and build a team capable of delivering reliable quality and production results.
