General Description

Revised 04/17/06: High School Diploma not required. Responsible recreation work concerned with the supervision of swimmers and prevention of accidents at a County pool or beach.

Essential Job Functions Maintains the safety of all swimmers, takes appropriate lifesaving action, and administers First-Aid.

Duties also include assisting with swimming lessons and water safety as well as daily maintenance associated with a public swimming facility.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Candidates must pass a lifesaving test and possess valid American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First-Aid certifications; must be in good physical condition and have mature judgment.

Minimum Requirements PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.

Ability to swim, climb, bend, stoop, walk, and squat frequently.

Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing and vision skills.

Education, Training, And Experience Graduation from a high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma preferred. Candidates may substitute a season of lifeguarding for one year of education.

Licenses, Certifications, Or Registrations Candidates must pass a lifesaving test and possess valid American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First-Aid certifications; must be in good physical condition and have mature judgment.

Temporary Position - benefits not available. Not eligible for Veterans' Preference in accordance with FS 295.07.
