Job Summary

The Academic Director is the intellectual and pedagogical heart of CADY. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the programme's academic and curricular components, ensuring that CADY's interventions at Yabatech translate into meaningful, lasting improvements in how creative arts are taught and experienced. The Academic Director will work closely with faculty, department heads, and external creative practitioners to build a curriculum that is both globally informed and deeply rooted in the Nigerian context.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct a comprehensive academic audit of existing arts curricula across all art departments at Yabatech.

* Identify critical curricular gaps and develop a phased Academic Enhancement Plan aligned with CADY's goals.

* Design supplementary modules, masterclass frameworks, and skills intensives to complement Yabatech's existing programmes.

* Integrate contemporary creative industry practice, digital tools, sustainability in design, and entrepreneurship into the academic offering.

* Establish learning outcomes, assessment frameworks, and quality benchmarks for all CADY academic programmes.

* Lead a structured Faculty Development Programme to upskill Yabatech's arts lecturers in pedagogy and industry-aligned teaching.

* Identify and recruit visiting practitioners, industry mentors, and guest lecturers from Nigerian and international creative industries.

* Work with Yabatech's academic governance structures to embed CADY programme components within the formal curriculum.

* Design and oversee student-facing CADY programmes, including workshops, showcases, residencies, and the annual CADY Graduate Exhibition.

* Develop a talent identification and mentorship pipeline connecting high-potential students with Alára's creative network.

* Produce academic and policy-facing papers on the state of creative arts education in Nigeria, positioning Alára as a thought leader.

* Build relationships with peer institutions for knowledge exchange, collaborative programmes, and accreditation.

* Represent CADY at academic conferences, cultural forums, and public speaking engagements.

* Support fundraising and grant applications with academic narrative and impact reporting.

* Serve as academic advisor to the CADY Technical Working Committee and produce termly Academic Progress Reports.

Skills And Qualifications

* An advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Fine Arts, Art Education, Design, or a related creative discipline.

* A minimum of 8 years' experience in arts education, curriculum development, or academic leadership.

* Deep knowledge of the Nigerian arts education landscape, with experience working within or alongside tertiary institutions.

* A track record of designing and delivering educational programmes with measurable impact.

* Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage academia, industry, and government with equal fluency.

* Strong written output, including curriculum documents, academic reports, and policy briefs.

It will be an advantage if you have:

* International exposure through study, research, or programme delivery in a global context.

* A strong network within Nigeria's contemporary creative industries, including fashion, visual arts, design, and film.

* Familiarity with accreditation bodies (NUC, NBTE) and their curricular frameworks.
