Account Assistant

About the role

HUAT LAI RESOURCES BERHAD is seeking an Account Assistant to join our accounting team on a full-time basis. This role is based in Melaka, Melaka, and offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in accounting and finance. As an Account Assistant, you will support the accounting function by performing essential administrative and bookkeeping duties, contributing to the accurate financial management and reporting of the organisation.

What you'll be doing

• Recording financial transactions in the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers accurately and in a timely manner
• Processing invoices, purchase orders, and payment documents for accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Preparing and reconciling bank statements and cash accounts
• Assisting with the preparation of monthly financial statements and reconciliation reports
• Performing data entry and maintaining accurate financial records and documentation
• Supporting the preparation of VAT, tax returns and other statutory compliance submissions
• Assisting with payroll administration and employee expense claims processing
• Filing and organising financial documents in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements
• Liaising with internal departments and external parties regarding accounting queries and documentation
• Supporting senior accounting staff with general accounting tasks and ad hoc projects as required

What we're looking for

• A qualification in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field (GCE 'O' Level or equivalent minimum)
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately with numerical data
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles, double-entry bookkeeping, and financial reporting concepts
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to work effectively with colleagues
• A professional approach, reliability, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality of financial information
• Familiarity with Malaysian accounting standards and tax regulations is advantageous
• Previous experience in an accounting or finance role is preferred but not essential for the right candidate
