About the role

HWANG SHENG CONSTRUCTION SDN BHD is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounts Officer to join our finance team in Kuching, Sarawak. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity of our construction business. As an Accounts Officer, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, and supporting the broader finance function. This position is essential to our operations and offers the opportunity to work within a growing construction company where your financial expertise directly contributes to business success.

What you'll be doing

1. Processing and recording financial transactions, including invoices, purchase orders, and payment vouchers
2. Reconciling bank statements and ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded in the accounting system
3. Preparing and maintaining accounts payable and accounts receivable records
4. Assisting with month-end and year-end financial close procedures
5. Generating financial reports and statements as required by management
6. Managing petty cash and ensuring proper documentation and approval procedures
7. Liaising with vendors, clients and internal departments to resolve billing and payment queries
8. Maintaining organised financial records and supporting documentation in compliance with company policies
9. Assisting with audit preparations and providing documentation to external auditors as needed
10. Supporting the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts

What we're looking for

1. Minimum two to three years of experience as an Accounts Officer or similar accounting role
2. Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
3. Solid understanding of accounting principles and practices, particularly within the construction or project-based business environment
4. Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail with strong organisational skills
5. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy
6. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels
7. Proactive problem-solving approach and willingness to learn new systems and procedures
8. Relevant accounting qualifications such as Diploma/Degree in Accounting are compulsory.
9. Experience in the construction industry would be beneficial but not essential
