JOB DESCRIPTION – ACCOUNTANT

Job Title: Accountant
Department: Finance and Accounts
Reports To: Finance Manager / Managing Director

Job Purpose

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, monitoring income and expenditure, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting procedures, and providing management with reliable financial information for effective decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions, including sales, purchases, expenses, receipts, payments, and bank transactions.
• Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports, including profit and loss statements, cash-flow reports, balance sheets, and management summaries.
• Perform regular bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies between bank statements and company records.
• Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding customer debts.
• Maintain accounts payable records, verify supplier invoices, and prepare authorized payments.
• Manage petty cash and ensure all expenses are properly approved and supported with receipts or other documentation.
• Assist with payroll preparation, salary deductions, allowances, commissions, and statutory obligations.
• Monitor budgets, compare actual expenditure with approved budgets, and report significant variances.
• Work with inventory and store personnel to reconcile stock records, purchases, stock losses, and inventory values.
• Maintain proper records for company assets, depreciation, purchases, and disposals.
• Support tax compliance, including VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, pension obligations, and other statutory payments where applicable.
• Assist internal and external auditors by providing accurate financial records and supporting documents.
• Identify unusual financial transactions, suspected fraud, or financial irregularities and report them promptly to management.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding salaries, bank information, company profits, customer accounts, and other sensitive financial information.

Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional accounting certification is an advantage. The candidate should have strong numerical, analytical, reporting, communication, computer, and organizational skills, with high integrity, attention to detail, and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Pay: ₦70,000.00 - ₦80,000.00 per month
