What they need

  • Part-Time Accountant - 15 Hours per Week
  • Flexible permanent part-time role | Three half-days per week | Perth
  • $105,000-$115,000 FTE + super, pro rata (approximately $41,450-$45,400 + super for 15 hours per week)
  • A genuine accounting role with flexibility, purpose and room to grow

We are a well-established Western Australian community-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting children, adolescents, adults and families, through education, support services.

We are strengthening our internal financial management capability and are seeking a capable and motivated Part-Time Accountant to join our team for 15 hours per week, worked across three half-days.

This is not a transactional bookkeeping position. You will work directly with the CEO and have responsibility for management reporting, month-end, budgets and forecasts, cash-flow oversight, financial analysis and controls. You will also support the CEO with monthly financial reporting to the Board.

At the same time, you will provide professional guidance and oversight to our Corporate Services Team Leader, who manages the day-to-day bookkeeping, payroll and financial administration.

The position offers an interesting combination of hands-on accounting, analysis and financial governance, without requiring full-time hours.

What you'll be doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and month-end reporting.
  • Working with the CEO to provide clear financial commentary, identifying significant variances, exceptions, emerging risks and matters requiring attention.
  • Maintaining budgets, forecasts and rolling cash-flow projections.
  • Providing concise weekly reporting on client and service revenues and helping management understand the operational factors influencing financial performance.
  • Analysing the financial performance of services, programs and funded projects.
  • Providing financial modelling and analysis to support management decisions and future service development.
  • Reviewing key reconciliations, financial controls and the integrity of financial information.
  • Providing professional oversight and support to the Corporate Services Team Leader, particularly in relation to payroll, superannuation, leave, allowances, loadings and applicable penalty payments.
  • Reviewing and jointly authorising payroll and approved supplier payments with the CEO in accordance with financial delegations.
  • Liaising with the ATO, external accountant and auditor within approved authority.
  • Working with the CEO to prepare the monthly financial report and commentary for the Board.
  • Attending the monthly Board meeting online to provide the financial update and explain the organisation's financial position, cash flow, budget and forecasts.
  • Liaising with the Board Treasurer on routine financial reporting and governance matters within agreed delegations.

You will report directly to the CEO. While you will work with the Board Treasurer and attend monthly Board meetings, the role does not report to the Board.

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who combines good accounting fundamentals with curiosity and sound judgement.

You may be an early-to-mid-career accountant looking for greater exposure to management accounting and organisational decision-making, or an experienced accountant seeking a meaningful permanent part-time position.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • CPA or CA qualification, or be substantially progressed towards qualification with relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience in management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • A sound understanding of payroll accounting, superannuation and financial controls.
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • The ability to look beyond the numbers and identify what is driving financial performance.
  • Confidence explaining financial information to managers who may not have a finance background.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, reliable financial information.
  • The judgement to identify when something doesn't look right, investigate it and escalate significant matters.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach.

Experience in a not-for-profit, health, allied health or community services organisation, funded programs or Award-based payroll would be highly regarded but is not essential.

Why consider this role?

This is an opportunity to undertake meaningful professional accounting work while retaining genuine flexibility.

The 15 hours are spread across three half-days, providing regular involvement with the organisation while leaving significant flexibility outside work.

You will have:

  • Direct access to and support from the CEO.
  • Exposure to management and Board-level financial reporting.
  • An opportunity to develop broader management accounting and commercial skills.
  • The ability to help strengthen financial systems, reporting and controls as the organisation grows.
  • A collaborative working relationship with an established Corporate Services function.
  • Meaningful work within a purpose-driven Western Australian not-for-profit organisation.
  • Scope for the role and your professional contribution to develop over time.

We recognise that experienced professionals seek flexibility for many different reasons. We welcome applications from candidates looking for a high-quality professional role that can genuinely be undertaken on a permanent part-time basis.

Remuneration

$105,000-$115,000 FTE + superannuation, pro rata for 15 hours per week, depending on qualifications and experience.

This equates to approximately $41,450-$45,400 per annum + superannuation for the 15-hour working arrangement.

To Apply

Please submit your CV together with a brief covering letter outlining:

  • your relevant accounting experience;
  • why a permanent 15-hour-per-week position appeals to you; and
  • what you believe you could bring to the financial management of a growing not-for-profit organisation.

Applications will be considered on both demonstrated capability and potential to grow with the role.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applications from people with disability, people who are neurodivergent, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
