What they need
Accountant / Accounting Manager
We're seeking an experienced, dependable Accountant / Accounting Manager to manage the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of our business.
This is a hands-on position for someone who can keep our books accurate and current, stay ahead of tax and payroll deadlines, and provide management with a clear understanding of the company's financial position on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate day-to-day accounting records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, expenses, deposits, and general ledger activity.
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts regularly and investigate discrepancies.
- Provide management with an accurate daily cash/bank balance and financial snapshot.
- Process payroll accurately and on schedule, including payroll taxes, deductions, and required filings.
- Prepare, file, and pay state sales and use taxes, including managing filings across multiple states where required.
- Maintain accurate sales-tax records and monitor filing and payment deadlines.
- Manage accounts payable, including reviewing bills, scheduling payments, and maintaining vendor records.
- Monitor accounts receivable, customer payments, refunds, credits, and chargebacks.
- Record and reconcile merchant processing deposits, fees, refunds, and chargebacks.
- Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and make appropriate journal entries.
- Perform month-end and year-end reconciliations and closing procedures.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow reports.
- Monitor cash flow and communicate upcoming financial obligations to management.
- Maintain payroll, employee compensation, and accounting records in an organized and confidential manner.
- Work with outside CPAs, tax professionals, banks, insurance providers, and other financial partners as needed.
- Prepare financial records and supporting documentation for income-tax preparation, audits, and other reporting requirements.
- Identify accounting discrepancies, unusual transactions, unnecessary expenses, and potential problems before they become larger issues.
- Help improve accounting procedures, internal controls, reporting, and financial organization as the company grows.
Qualifications
- Previous accounting or bookkeeping experience in a business environment.
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles.
- Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax filings.
- Experience with sales and use tax reporting, preferably for a company selling into multiple states.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of accounting responsibilities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet recurring filing and payment deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with company and employee financial information.
- Manufacturing, e-commerce, retail, or multi-state sales experience is a plus.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for more than someone who simply enters transactions. We want someone who understands the numbers and keeps management informed.
The right person should be able to answer questions such as:
What is our actual available cash today? What came in yesterday? What went out? What bills and tax payments are coming due? Are our books reconciled and current? Is there anything financially that management needs to know about today?
Our goal is to have accurate, up-to-date accounting information available every day rather than waiting until the end of the month to understand the company's financial position.
