Job Description

De Wet Group is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate must have compulsory AGA registration and at least 5 years of retail accounting experience. The candidate must be able to maintain accurate financial records, manage accounting processes, prepare financial reports, and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

Minimum Requirements

• AGA registration is compulsory.
• Minimum of 5 years’ retail accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls.
• Proficiency in Xero Accounting.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with Google Sheets, online banking platforms, and accounting and stock control systems.
• Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, preparing financial reports, performing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
• Process company expenses, supplier invoices, and payments.
• Reconcile bank accounts and creditor accounts.
• Review sales, stock, and accounting reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Assist with month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
• Support internal and external audits.
• Maintain effective financial controls and ensure compliance with company procedures.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve financial discrepancies.
• Provide accurate financial information and reports to management.
• Assist stores and departments with finance-related queries.
• Review and improve accounting processes to promote efficiency and accuracy.

Daily Duties

• Process and capture financial transactions.
• Perform bank and creditor reconciliations.
• Process supplier payments.
• Review accounting records and investigate discrepancies.
• Respond to finance-related queries from stores, departments, and management.
• Ensure that financial transactions are processed accurately and timeously.

Monthly Duties

• Prepare monthly management accounts.
• Complete month-end reconciliations.
• Assist with monthly financial reporting.
• Support audit preparation and financial reviews.
• Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective action.
• Review accounting processes and implement improvements where required.

Systems and Tools

The successful candidate should have experience using:

• Xero Accounting
• Microsoft Excel
• Google Sheets
• Online banking platforms
• Accounting and stock control systems

Additional Responsibilities

• Provide financial support and relevant reports to management.
• Assist stores and departments with finance-related matters.
• Maintain confidentiality of all financial information.
• Perform any other accounting duties reasonably required by the Company.
