Our small but mighty company is based in Kansas City, Missouri. We provide financial consulting and advisory services, as well as bookkeeping, to small businesses across the US. We have a particular focus on music studios and the music industry.

We’re looking for a part-time accountant/bookkeeper to work directly with our clients. You will maintain the bookkeeping, and eventually meet with clients regularly, advise and strategize with them, and generally guide them as they build the business of their dreams. (We have a framework for all of this, of which the Profit First system is a large part.)

While not a requirement, we are particularly interested in candidates who would eventually like to grow into a leadership role.

Let’s get into the job details:

• The position is part-time, at least at first. It can remain part-time or it can eventually grow to full-time, if you desire.
• The starting pay is $20-30/hour (with an immediate $5/hour raise after you achieve your QuickBooks ProAdvisor Certification). We have built in programs/training which have bonuses/raises attached. As you grow in your knowledge, skill, and experience, your pay will be impacted by the number of clients/projects you take on (and tends to grow dramatically). This job has great earnings potential and will pay exceptionally well as you become experienced.
• The work will be in-person at our office for 2-3 days per week. Fridays are always virtual!
• The work is meaningful. You’ll be working with clients from a variety of industries in a variety of situations. And you’ll be helping them accomplish amazing things. You will directly guide and advise them as they build the business of their dreams. We’re willing to bet you can’t find that level of impact and meaning anywhere else!
• Great earning potential. This may start small but will grow quickly to become significant, as you become more efficient and handle more clients, and take on additional responsibility. We have incentive bonus programs that are based on performance. If the key objectives we set together are met, bonuses are paid!
• You will always be learning. Because we believe in being true financial partners with our clients, you’ll become knowledgeable in many areas: cash-flow management strategies, best practices, when to be an LLC vs an S-Corp, and any of a dozen different areas that impact the day-to-day of our clients. • Related to the above, we will look forward to train you to become a certified Profit First Professional.

Now that you’re intrigued, let’s review the job requirements.

• First, the technical stuff. We’re looking for someone with one or more years of bookkeeping or accounting experience. A bonus for those who have experience advising or consulting with clients.
• You need to be a motivated, self-driven person who enjoys getting things done. Because we work remotely from each other sometimes, there will be no one looking over your shoulder to keep you focused.
• You ABSOLUTELY have to be a person of integrity. In the work we do, we often deal with sensitive information and our clients place a great deal of trust in us. You also need to be someone who can stand up for these values, as we require them of our clients, too (we will not work with clients who lie on their taxes, accept cash payments “under the table,” etc.).
• You will be on the computer a lot. You need to be comfortable with that, including using email, researching online, and working in spreadsheets.
• You will be on Zoom a lot. We have monthly or semimonthly meetings with every client. You need to enjoy talking to other people and collaborating with them, sometimes telling them what to do (in a thoughtful, encouraging manner).
• You need to be a person that loves making a difference and seeing the impact of their work. Basically, someone who feels good by helping others succeed and feel good.
• Experience working with QuickBooks Online.

A few nice-to-haves that aren’t job requirements.

• Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor for QuickBooks Online
• A desire to become a leader within our growing company
• Familiarity with Profit First
• Experience with or desire to go into business coaching/small business consulting.

To sum up, your job will be to work with clients. You will advise them on money management, do their bookkeeping, reconcile bank statements, prepare reports, etc. You will also get to know them, their business, and their goals. And then you will do everything you can to guide them towards achieving those goals. You will also be a big part of our company and help us as we evolve and grow.
