Accounting - Assistant Manager (Mandarin speaker)

About the role

Startek Malaysia is seeking a talented Mandarin-speaking Assistant Manager to join our accounting team to lead AP & AR functions at our office in Ara Damansara, Selangor. This is a full-time opportunity for someone with a passion for finance and accounting and team management experience.

Job Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies.

• Lead, supervise, and develop a team of approximately 25 finance staff members across AP and AR operations.

• Monitor daily accounting activities, including invoice processing, vendor payments, collections, customer reconciliations, and cash application.

• Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing processes related to AP and AR activities.

• Review and validate accounting entries to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

• Resolve escalated issues related to the client, vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.

• Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

• Support audit activities by preparing required schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.

• Assist in the preparation of financial reports and management presentations.

• Ensure adherence to company policies, statutory requirements, and financial regulations.

• Train, coach, and mentor team members to enhance their technical knowledge and professional development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related disciplines.
• Minimum 3-4 years of experience handling full sets of accounts, with strong exposure to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
• Proven experience in team leadership or supervisory responsibilities is preferred.
• Fluent in Mandarin and English, both written and spoken, to support communication with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and accounting systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong presentation and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Shared Services, BPO, or multinational environments.
• Experience managing medium to large-sized accounting teams.
• Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, MIA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
