The Opportunity

We are adding a Controller to guide our accounting managers and set the standard for how finance work gets delivered across our entire book of customers. This is a hands-on leadership seat. During your first months, you will dive into the day-to-day delivery side of the work so you can coach your managers with genuine credibility, help bring new customers on board, and tidy up inherited books. As you settle in, your focus will shift toward developing people, strengthening our controls, and modernizing how we operate.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Leadership and Financial Oversight

-        Direct and develop a group of accounting managers and staff, supporting their growth across payables, receivables, payroll, and related disciplines

-        Act as a trusted advisor to customers and the outside partners they rely on, anticipating needs before they are voiced

-        Partner with customers to build yearly budgets and rolling projections, backed by practical recommendations tied to their goals

-        Monitor liquidity, supervise vendor payments, and keep customers informed about their financial position

-        Own the monthly close cycle end to end, including accruals, prepaid amounts, depreciation, amortization, and equity compensation entries

-        Oversee daily financial operations for a varied set of engagements, making sure deliverables land accurately and on schedule

-        Prepare and review bank, credit card, balance sheet, and income statement reconciliations with a sharp eye for detail

-        Build and analyze monthly reporting packages for management teams and boards

-        Keep state registrations and yearly filings current by tracking deadlines well ahead of time

-        Learn the accounting manager role firsthand, then use that knowledge to support onboarding of new customers and cleanup of existing records

Process Improvement

-        Spot gaps in accounting and business workflows, then craft fixes that cut cost, raise quality, and lower risk

-        Write clear procedures and put internal control frameworks in place to keep work consistent

-        Lead or join cross-team improvement efforts using Lean, Six Sigma, or comparable approaches

-        Introduce tools that streamline financial workflows, such as automation, AI-enabled assistants, ERP platforms, and dashboards

-        Work alongside managers to define KPIs that show customers how their business is performing

-        Study customer interactions and feedback to boost satisfaction and retention, then turn what you learn into service standards

Required Skills and Qualifications

-        Bachelor's level education in finance, accounting, or a similar area

-        A decade or more of accounting work, including at least three years leading others, ideally in a service-oriented setting that supports many accounts at once

-        Proven talent for juggling numerous customer relationships and shifting priorities while delivering excellent service

-        Deep working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and strong spreadsheet skills

-        Comfort with various accounting and ERP platforms (examples include NetSuite, Ramp, Puzzle, and Ajera) and eagerness to master new software quickly

-        Hands-on exposure to payroll providers such as ADP, Gusto, Rippling, Insperity, or Justworks

-        Track record of streamlining processes, whether through Lean, Six Sigma, or other operational excellence           efforts

-        Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to connect with a wide range of personalities

-        Strong integrity, ethics, and sound judgment

-        Self-motivated owner who thrives working independently while balancing several engagements

Nice to Have

-        Experience on both the internal and the customer-facing side of accounting

-        ERP or financial system implementation and optimization background

-        Familiarity with equity management tools such as Carta or Fidelity

-        Success in fast-moving, consulting-style environments
