Responsibilities

• Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and month-end closing procedures.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections while maintaining accurate records.
• Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and support audit preparations by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Utilize financial software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms to streamline accounting operations.
• Perform cash flow analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial report writing to support strategic decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), securities law, governmental accounting standards, and other regulatory frameworks.
• Assist in internal controls implementation and monitoring to uphold financial integrity across all processes.
• Support regulatory reporting requirements and assist with tax filings by maintaining accurate records of financial transactions.
• Mentor junior team members by sharing technical accounting knowledge and fostering professional development.

Requirements

• Proven experience in accounting or finance roles with a strong understanding of financial concepts such as debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, and accrual accounting.
• Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft or similar systems; advanced Excel skills including data analysis functions like VLOOKUP are essential.
• Knowledge of GAAP standards and experience with financial statement preparation and interpretation.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance accounting practices such as SOX and LIHTC is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform detailed account analysis, bank reconciliations, and cash flow assessments.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
• Effective communication skills for preparing clear financial reports and collaborating across teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; professional certifications such as CPA or CMA are a plus but not mandatory.
• Experience working within non-profit organizations or government-related entities is advantageous.
