Accounting Manager

TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT — PARENTAL LEAVE COVERAGE

This is a temporary, fixed-term position created to provide day-to-day coverage during an employee's parental leave. We are looking to bring this person on beginning November 2026 through April 2027, ideally with enough lead time before the leave begins for transition and knowledge transfer with the outgoing Accounting Manager. Exact start and end dates may shift slightly based on the employee's leave timing and return.

Job Summary

Ayr Wellness is looking for a self-starter with strong general accounting experience to join our team on a temporary basis, independently managing the month-end close process and a small accounting team during a colleague's parental leave. This role calls for someone who can come in with minimal ramp-up, ideally with cannabis industry background and hands-on experience in Sage Intact and Dutchie, take ownership of close and accounting processes immediately, and effectively lead the team throughout the coverage period.

Reporting to the SVP, Accounting, this position offers the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience across both manufacturing and retail within America's fastest-growing job sector.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage the month-end close cycle and ensure deadlines are met.

• Review monthly P&Ls, identify variances, and propose necessary accruals or adjustments.

• Review and approve accounting journal entries (AJEs).

• Review and approve payroll.

• Review and approve bank reconciliations.

• Prepare sales and use tax returns and coordinate related payments.

• Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations.

• Manage a team of four accounting professionals (two in-house and two offshore).

• Assist with the company's ongoing audit, including sample selections and related requests.

Qualifications & Experience

• 5+ years of progressive general accounting experience, including direct ownership of the month-end close process.

• Experience supervising an accounting team required; experience managing a blended in-house/offshore team a strong plus.

• Cannabis industry accounting experience strongly preferred.

• Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct required; experience with Dutchie a strong plus.

• Knowledge of finance and accounting, including GAAP, inventory management, and budgeting.

• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

• Trustworthiness and ability to keep strict confidentiality.

• Team player with a professional demeanor and positive attitude.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent Excel skills are a must.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, exciting environment and up for a challenge.

• CPA licensure a plus.
