Reporting to the Director of Finance, this position supervises the Billing Coordinator, Accounting Coordinator, and Senior Accountant. The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing month-end close activities, monitoring actual revenue and expenses against budget, maintaining general ledger accuracy, reconciling accounts receivable, and preparing state contract billing.

The ideal candidate has a strong accounting background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead a team while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Coordinate month-end close activities and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
  • Track actual revenue and expenses against budget, investigate variances, and communicate findings to the Director of Finance.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable and resolve discrepancies related to billing, payments, and account balances.
  • Prepare and review state contract and applicable Medicaid-related billing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contract requirements and deadlines.
  • Reconcile billing to supporting documentation and financial records, then submit billing packages to the Director of Finance for final approval and submission.
  • Analyze revenue and expenses by program, funding source, and contract.
  • Supervise the Billing Coordinator, Accounting Coordinator, and Senior Accountant, including reviewing work, setting priorities, and providing coaching and feedback.
  • Maintain effective accounting procedures, internal controls, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Identify process improvements and assist with financial analysis, budgeting, and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Accounting experience with knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Experience with financial analysis, budget-to-actual reporting, and investigating discrepancies.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to supervise staff, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting or financial management software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid billing, state contracts, accounts receivable, and contract compliance, preferred.
  • Supervisory experience and knowledge of nonprofit accounting, audits, and internal controls.
