What they need

A well-established national trade association is seeking an experienced, motivated Accounting Manager to lead its accounting and financial reporting functions. With the upcoming retirement of our longtime CFO, this is an opportunity for an accounting professional ready to take the next step in their career. Reporting directly to the CEO, this person will serve as the organization’s primary financial professional, managing day-to-day accounting operations while contributing to planning, analysis, and organizational decisions.

We help independent home improvement retailers succeed through education, training, and business resources. Our collaborative, flexible culture is reflected in exceptional employee tenure: many colleagues have been here 10–20+ years. Our retiring CFO originally joined as an Accounting Manager before advancing into executive leadership. This role offers meaningful responsibility and potential to grow into broader financial leadership.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee general ledger activities, month-end and year-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, departmental profitability, and organizational performance.
  • Lead annual budgeting and support forecasting, variance analysis, and financial planning.
  • Manage WIP reporting, revenue recognition, invoicing, and relevant contract requirements.
  • Monitor cash flow, banking activities, and the organization’s financial position.
  • Supervise and support a part-time Staff Accountant (20–25 hours per week).
  • Oversee payroll processes and related accounting responsibilities.
  • Coordinate the annual audit with an external CPA firm.
  • Prepare and present financial information to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with department leaders, strengthen internal controls, and improve accounting processes.

What We’re Looking For

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Approximately 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong accounting, financial reporting, closing, budgeting, and financial analysis skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and accounting software proficiency.
  • Clear communication, sound judgment, initiative, and a hands-on, collaborative approach.

Preferred qualifications

  • Association, nonprofit, retail, or similar industry experience.
  • QuickBooks Online; revenue recognition, WIP, and client billing experience.
  • Staff supervision or mentoring; audit coordination experience.
  • HubSpot familiarity; CPA or other advanced accounting credential.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Career growth: direct CEO access, Board exposure, and potential for broader leadership responsibilities.
  • Long-term stability: many employees have 10–20+ years of service.
  • Flexibility: work remotely on Fridays.
  • Compensation: $95,000–$105,000 base salary, annual performance-based bonus opportunities, and competitive benefits.
  • Culture: supportive colleagues, quarterly events, holiday celebrations, and a trust-based environment.

The Ideal Candidate

You enjoy being hands-on while seeing the bigger financial picture. You take ownership, communicate financial information clearly to nonfinancial colleagues, and want to help leadership make informed decisions. You’re looking to build a long-term career and grow your responsibilities over time.

If you’re ready to take the next step in your accounting career and make a meaningful difference, we’d love to hear from you.
