Duties

• Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards.
• Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing procedures.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections while maintaining accurate records.
• Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations to verify account accuracy.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities to inform strategic decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and other regulatory requirements related to financial reporting.
• Utilize financial software such as PeopleSoft, Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar tools for data entry, reporting, and analysis.
• Perform detailed Excel data analysis using functions like VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and spreadsheets to identify trends and discrepancies.
• Assist with internal and external audits by preparing documentation and supporting audit inquiries.
• Mentor junior team members on accounting best practices, technical concepts, and software tools to foster professional growth.

Requirements

• Proven experience in accounting or finance roles with a strong understanding of financial concepts such as debits & credits, double-entry bookkeeping, and accrual accounting.
• Demonstrated knowledge of non-profit accounting principles (LIHTC), governmental accounting standards, securities law compliance, or public accounting is a plus.
• Familiarity with financial software including QuickBooks, Quicken, Sage, PeopleSoft or Xero; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel is essential.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data using Excel data analysis techniques like VLOOKUP functions and spreadsheet modeling.
• Experience with regulatory compliance accounting such as SOX controls or GAAP reporting requirements.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in account reconciliation and financial report writing.
• Ability to mentor colleagues effectively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of legal areas such as wills, trusts & estate law or securities law is advantageous but not required.
