Position Description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the monthly accounting close, journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and fixed asset system management. Working closely with a remote U.S. accounting team, this role requires managing a front-loaded monthly cadence—focusing heavily on month-end close during the first seven business days, followed by balance sheet reconciliations, process improvements, and ad hoc financial analysis for the remainder of the month.

Functions

  • Prepare and post routine and month-end journal entries in support of the monthly financial close process.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, researching and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Manage the Oracle Fixed Asset system, including tracking asset additions, transfers, disposals, Work in Progress (WIP) assets, and processing monthly depreciation.
  • Perform detailed account analysis of Profit & Loss (P&L) accounts prior to month-end close, identifying and escalating unusual variances.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Validate general ledger (GL) coding on corporate accounts payable invoices for accuracy and completeness.
  • Set up and maintain vendor/supplier records within the accounting system.
  • Support transaction accounting overflow work, audit requests, ad hoc analysis, and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of general accounting experience, including hands-on month-end close responsibilities.
  • Experience with Oracle, including the Fixed Asset module, strongly preferred; NetSuite experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills for seamless cross-border team coordination.
  • High attention to detail and proven ability to meet strict close deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining availability during key close periods aligned with U.S. business hours.

Technical Skills

  • ERP & Accounting Systems: Oracle (specifically Fixed Assets Module), NetSuite (Plus).
  • Core Accounting Knowledge: U.S. GAAP, General Ledger Coding, P&L Analysis, Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
  • Spreadsheets & Data: Advanced Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.

Core Competencies

  1. Attention to Detail & Accuracy: High precision in validating GL coding, calculating depreciation, and reconciling complex accounts.
  2. Time Management & Deadline Adherence: Discipline to manage a front-loaded workload during the monthly close calendar.
  3. Analytical Thinking: Capability to spot unusual P&L variances, troubleshoot reconciliation items, and support financial preparation.
  4. Cross-Border Collaboration: Clear communication and reliability when partnering with remote U.S.-based teams and stakeholders.
  5. Process Improvement: Proactive approach to identifying system efficiencies, project work, and supporting ad hoc initiatives.
