What you'll do
- Prepare accurate, complete, and well-organized working paper files, including bookkeeping, data entry, and bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and support year-end closing processes.
- Assist with compilation engagements and the preparation of corporate income tax (T2) returns under the guidance of more experienced team members.
- Assist with personal income tax (T1) return preparation during tax season.
- Communicate professionally and promptly with clients regarding missing information and document requests.
- Identify discrepancies, raise potential issues with engagement team members, and respond promptly to review notes and feedback.
- Record time accurately each day and remain mindful of engagement budgets and deadlines.
- Maintain the confidentiality of client and firm information at all times.
What you bring
- Post-secondary education or training in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field.
- Two to three years of bookkeeping or accounting technician experience, preferably in a Canadian public practice accounting firm.
- Experience with working paper preparation, reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, year-end file support, and Canadian personal income tax returns; exposure to compilation files and T2 returns is an asset.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel; QuickBooks Online certification and experience with CCH iFirm, CaseWare, and SharePoint are assets.
- You must be eligible to register for CRA’s Represent a Client service and obtain a Representative Identifier (RepID).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, reliability, and time-management skills, along with a collaborative approach and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work regularly from our Lower Lonsdale office during the initial onboarding and training period, and to attend the office as required thereafter.
What we offer
- A full-time, permanent position based at our Lower Lonsdale office. The role will initially require more regular in-office attendance during onboarding and training, with flexible hybrid work arrangements available thereafter.
- An expected salary range of $45,000 to $70,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Extended health and dental coverage, including a Health Spending Account, with Cahill paying 50% of benefit premiums for enrolled employees.
- Flexible paid time off that increases with length of service.
- RRSP matching after one year of employment, with the firm’s contribution increasing based on length of service.
- Compensation for management-approved overtime worked during tax season.
- Tax season bonus and participation in the firm’s profit-sharing program.
- Paid professional development and continued learning support.
- A welcoming and collaborative workplace with regular team events and social activities.
