What they need

About Us

We are a growing, modern accountancy firm dedicated to providing exceptional service to our clients. As our client base continues to expand, we are looking for an organised and proactive Accounts & Tax Senior to join our team and help us deliver high-quality accounts and tax compliance work.

This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT-qualified (or qualified by experience) accountant who has a good foundation in accounts and tax work and is looking to develop their skills and take on greater responsibility over time. The role offers variety, flexibility and the opportunity to grow into an accounts review position.

The Role

You will play an important role in the preparation and delivery of accounts and tax compliance work, working closely with our outsourced accounting team and the wider practice.

Initially, the role will involve coordinating and reviewing work prepared by our outsourced team, making accounting adjustments and preparing personal tax returns. Over time, you will develop your knowledge and confidence to take on increasing responsibility for reviewing accounts and managing client compliance work.

The role will also involve working closely with our Client Administration Assistant to ensure that accounts and tax work is progressing effectively and that all relevant deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts, Corporation Tax & Outsourcing

  • Sending accounting records and information to our outsourced accounting team
  • Receiving and checking accounts and corporation tax returns prepared by the outsourced team
  • Liaising with the outsourced team regarding queries, missing information and amendments
  • Carrying out first‑stage reviews of accounts prepared by our outsourced team, checking completeness, identifying adjustments, and preparing journals. Progressing to full accounts review with experience
  • Posting accounting adjustments and journals following the preparation of accounts and corporation tax returns
  • Identifying and resolving accounting discrepancies and queries

Personal Tax Compliance

  • Preparing personal/self-assessment tax returns
  • Ensuring tax returns are accurate and complete
  • Assisting with other tax compliance work as required

Workflow & Deadline Management

  • Working alongside the Client Administration Assistant to manage accounts and tax compliance deadlines
  • Monitoring the progress of accounts and tax jobs and following up where necessary
  • Ensuring work is progressing in sufficient time to meet statutory and client deadlines
  • Identifying potential delays or issues and taking appropriate action
  • Helping to ensure the firm's overall accounts and tax workflow runs smoothly

Client Communication

  • Liaising with clients where required to obtain accounting and tax information
  • Responding to accounting and tax queries within your level of responsibility
  • Communicating professionally and clearly with clients, colleagues and our outsourced team
  • Building positive working relationships with clients and helping to provide a high level of service

Future Development Opportunities

This role is designed to develop with the successful candidate.

Initially, the focus will be on completing accounts and corporation tax adjustments, preparing personal tax returns and working effectively with our outsourced accounting team. As your knowledge and experience develops, you will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility for:

  • Reviewing accounts prepared by the outsourced team
  • Taking ownership of accounts and tax jobs from preparation through to completion
  • Dealing with more complex accounting and tax queries
  • Taking greater responsibility for client relationships and communication

We are looking for someone who is keen to learn and develop, rather than someone who necessarily has extensive experience of all of these areas from day one.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working in an accountancy practice
  • Is AAT qualified or has an equivalent level of accounting knowledge and experience
  • Has a good understanding of accounting principles and accounts preparation
  • Has some experience of preparing personal tax returns
  • Has excellent attention to detail and takes pride in producing accurate work
  • Is highly organised and able to manage multiple deadlines
  • Is proactive and willing to take ownership of responsibilities
  • Has good IT skills and is comfortable learning new accounting and practice management software
  • Experience with Xero is preferred
  • Is confident communicating with clients and colleagues
  • Enjoys working as part of a small, friendly team
  • Is keen to develop their technical knowledge and take on greater responsibility over time

We are particularly interested in candidates who are looking for their next step and want the opportunity to develop from an accounts preparation role into a broader accounts and tax compliance position.

Working Arrangements

The successful candidate will be based in our office initially to support training and integration into the team. Following the initial training period, there will be the option to work from home for one or two days per week, subject to business needs.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary of £32,000 - £37,000 depending on experience
  • Hybrid working after the initial training period
  • 22 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Enhanced company sick pay available following successful completion of the probationary period
  • An additional paid day off on your birthday, where it falls on a working day
  • An annual salary review
  • Payment of AAT annual subscription fees
  • A supportive and friendly team environment
  • Variety and responsibility from day one
  • Training and development opportunities
  • The opportunity to develop into an accounts review role
  • The chance to grow within an ambitious and expanding accountancy firm

If you are AAT qualified (or qualified by experience), have a good foundation in accounting and tax and are looking for an opportunity to develop your career within a modern and growing accountancy firm, we'd love to hear from you.

Pay: £32,000.00-£37,000.00 per year
