We are an established accountancy practice looking for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join our small team.

This is a varied, hands-on role working with a range of small businesses, limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.

Accountancy practice experience is essential for this role. Unfortunately, applicants without previous experience working within an accountancy practice will not be considered.

The role will include:

• Preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
• Manual bookkeeping, including working from client records and spreadsheets
• Bookkeeping using Excel, Xero and QuickBooks
• Bank reconciliations and reviewing bookkeeping records
• VAT return preparation
• Liaising with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
• General accounts and bookkeeping support within the practice

The successful applicant will:

• Have previous experience working within an accountancy practice
• Have practical experience preparing accounts from (sometimes incomplete) client records
• Be confident with manual bookkeeping and bank reconciliations
• Be proficient in Excel
• Have experience using Xero and QuickBooks
• Be accurate, organised and able to work independently
• Be comfortable dealing directly with clients
• Have a good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping

Accountancy qualifications would be beneficial, although relevant practical accountancy practice experience is more important.

This is an office-based position at our Elmstead Market office. Hours and working pattern can be discussed with the successful applicant.

We are a small, approachable and very busy practice with a friendly working environment and a varied client base. The role would suit someone looking for a long-term position within a local accountancy practice.

Pay: £13.00-£20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 16.5 per week
