Accounts Payable Officer

Our client is an established and successful organisation operating within the transport and logistics sector. With a busy finance function supporting a high-volume operational environment, they are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Officer to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys transactional accounts payable but is also looking to develop their accounting skills and progress towards an Assistant Accountant position.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager and working as part of a supportive finance team, you will initially take responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable transactions.

Key responsibilities will include:

• High-volume processing of supplier invoices;
• Coding and matching invoices against purchase orders;
• Reconciling supplier statements and accounts;
• Investigating and resolving invoice and payment discrepancies;
• Preparing and processing weekly and monthly payment runs;
• Managing supplier queries and maintaining strong supplier relationships;
• Ensuring appropriate approvals and supporting documentation are obtained;
• Maintaining accurate supplier and creditor records;
• Assisting with month-end accounts payable processes and reconciliations;
• Supporting the broader finance team with general accounting and administrative duties.

Career Development

Importantly, this position offers scope to develop beyond transactional accounts payable.

As you build your knowledge of the business and demonstrate your capability, there will be an opportunity to take on additional accounting responsibilities and progress towards an Assistant Accountant role.

About You

You will ideally have:

• Previous accounts payable experience within a high-volume environment;
• Experience within transport, logistics, warehousing, distribution or a similarly fast-paced industry would be highly regarded;
• Strong reconciliation and numerical skills;
• Good understanding of accounts payable processes and controls;
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills;
• Experience using an ERP or accounting system;
• High attention to detail and accuracy;
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines;
• A proactive approach and willingness to learn; and
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

You may already be undertaking, or considering undertaking, tertiary studies in Accounting, Finance or Commerce and be looking for an employer that can provide practical experience alongside your studies.
