What they need
Company Description Acentech is a multi-disciplinary consulting firm specializing in acoustics, technology, and vibration, with roots extending back more than 70 years. As one of the oldest and largest firms in its field, Acentech partners with architects, engineers, institutions, manufacturers, planners, and designers around the world. Teams of acousticians, engineers, scientists, and technical consultants apply collective expertise and innovative thinking to projects at the intersection of architecture, technology, and the built environment. The firm provides fully integrated consulting services in architectural acoustics, noise and vibration control, environmental noise, audiovisual and multimedia systems, and telecommunications and security systems. Applicants can expect to work in a collaborative, knowledge-rich environment on diverse and impactful projects.
Role Description The Acoustics Consultant is a full-time, hybrid role based in Cambridge, MA, with flexibility for some work from home. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing acoustic and vibration analyses, contributing to noise and environmental impact assessments, and supporting architectural acoustics design for a variety of building types. The consultant will prepare clear technical reports and documentation, develop design recommendations, and collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and project stakeholders. Typical tasks include site measurements, data interpretation, modeling and simulation, and participation in project meetings and presentations. The role also involves coordinating with internal teams, managing project tasks and schedules, and supporting business development through proposal input and occasional client-facing communications.
Qualifications

- Knowledge of vibration control and acoustic vibration issues in buildings, infrastructure, or specialized facilities.
- Experience with environmental noise assessment, including measurement, modeling, and mitigation strategies.

- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in acoustics, engineering, physics, architecture, or a related technical field.
- Proficiency with acoustic and vibration modeling tools and measurement equipment, or a demonstrated ability to learn them quickly.
- Solid quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and quality control.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work on multidisciplinary teams in a hybrid work environment.
- Interest in consulting, client service, and contributing to proposals and presentations; prior consulting experience is a plus.
Required Skills
- Reading and interpreting building drawings and specifications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal.
- Experience with acoustical modeling software, noise modeling software, AutoCAD and/or Revit, and standard word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Passion for the work – for buildings, for sound, for music.
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in acoustics or related field.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant consulting experience.
