Activity Director – Skilled Nursing Facility

The Activity Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive activities program designed to meet the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and recreational needs of residents. The Activity Director promotes resident engagement, independence, dignity, and quality of life while ensuring activities are appropriate for individual interests and abilities.

Essential Duties:

Develop and maintain a monthly activity calendar that provides a variety of individual, group, and community-based activities.

Plan activities that meet the needs and preferences of residents, including those with dementia and other cognitive or physical limitations.

Encourage resident participation while respecting each resident’s choices and abilities.

Conduct and document activity assessments and care plan interventions as required.

Coordinate special events, entertainment, outings, holiday activities, and resident-centered programs.

Maintain accurate activity records, attendance documentation, and required reports.

Collaborate with nursing, social services, dietary, therapy, and other departments to support resident care and quality of life.

Communicate with residents and families regarding activity preferences and opportunities.

Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately supplied activity area.

Follow facility policies, regulatory requirements, infection control practices, and safety procedures.

Participate in resident council and other quality-of-life initiatives as assigned.

Supervise and coordinate activity staff and volunteers when applicable.
