What they need
An established advisory firm is looking for an actuarial and analytics specialist to join its Wellington team. If you're three or four years into your career, enjoy digging into complex data and can explain what the numbers mean to people who need to act on them, this one is worth a conversation.
They're a genuinely supportive, collaborative team, with senior people who share what they know and clients across government and private industry.
The role
This is a client-facing role with a varied mix of work, so you'll have room to learn and grow across different areas.
Your technical key areas of focus will include:
- Actuarial and valuation modelling: building, testing and maintaining valuation and predictive models
- Statistical and predictive analysis: using statistics, forecasting and machine learning to assess risk and estimate future outcomes
- Large data sets: assessing data quality and preparing complex external data for analysis, using tools such as Python or SAS
- Costing and programme evaluation: modelling costs and measuring how well policies and programmes are working in practice
- Dashboards and reporting: building and improving dashboards that bring the numbers to life for clients
- Client advice: turning technical findings into clear, practical advice, both written and spoken
You'll also coach and support more junior colleagues, help shape proposals and new ideas, and grow your profile through industry events and presentations.
About you
- Around three to four years' experience in an actuarial, analytics or other technical role, in a professional services firm or in industry
- You don't need to be a qualified actuary. People who are close to finishing, or have just finished, their actuarial exams suit the role well, but backgrounds in maths, statistics, data science, engineering, physics or computer science are equally welcome
- A solid grounding in predictive modelling, statistics or machine learning (Python or SAS is a plus)
- Curious and collaborative, with a genuine interest in using data to solve meaningful problems
- Able to work independently and manage your own priorities
- A clear communicator who can explain technical ideas to people who aren't technical
- A good academic record (you'll be asked to share your transcript)
- The right to work in New Zealand
What's on offer
- Fully flexible, high-trust working
- Profit share bonus
- Paid parental leave and salary continuance
- Professional membership fees covered
- Mobile phone plan
- Wellbeing and community days
- A package that reflects your experience, discussed in confidence with shortlisted candidates
Where you'll be based
This role is based in Wellington, with remote working opportunities.
