Adaptive Movement Instructor

Position Summary

We are seeking an energetic, creative, and empathetic Adaptive Movement Instructor to design and lead engaging movement and rhythm sessions for individuals with diverse physical, cognitive, and sensory needs. This role emphasizes body awareness, motor skill development, creative expression, and social interaction in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Schedule & Commitment

• Tuesday Morning: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM AND/OR
• Wednesday Mid-day: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
• Base Commitment: 2 teaching hours per week (+ preparation time)
• Expansion Opportunity: High potential to introduce after-school youth and young adult movement classes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and facilitate inclusive movement routines incorporating music, rhythm, props (scarves, ribbons, drums), and structured play.
• Adapt movement concepts for participants with varying mobility levels, including ambulatory, semi-ambulatory, and wheelchair-using participants.
• Foster sensory integration, spatial coordination, balance, and self-confidence.
• Collaborate with support staff, personal care assistants, and caregivers to ensure safe participation.
• Maintain a sensory-friendly and physically safe studio space.

Required & Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 1–2 years instructing dance, movement therapy, adaptive physical education, or creative movement.
• Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of adaptive techniques, sensory sensitivities, and positive behavior support strategies.
• Soft Skills: Compassionate, flexible, highly energetic, and excellent verbal/non-verbal communication skills.

Pay: $75.00 - $100.00 per hour
