What they need

  • Opportunities currently available in Horsham, Hopetoun, Dimboola and Murtoa.
  • Be part of a team helping children of all abilities thrive in their kindergarten.
  • Casual and part time options and have the school holidays off.

Are you curious about a career in early childhood education and want to try it out first? Are you a parent looking to return to work but need the school holidays off, or maybe you're thinking about retirement but not quite ready to stop working?

Being an Additional Assistant with Uniting might be the perfect role for you. You don’t need qualifications – just compassion, patience, and a willingness to support children and educators in a warm, welcoming environment.

About the program

The Kindergarten Inclusion Support (KIS) program helps create inclusive environments for all children, including those with disabilities, developmental delays, or complex medical needs.

Uniting is the largest provider of Additional Assistants in Victoria and provides placements in both Uniting and non-Uniting Kindergarten programs across Victoria.

About the role

KIS additional assistants work as part of the service team delivering the kindergarten program and share everyday team responsibilities. They work across the whole room and help kindergarten teachers and educators to provide fun and inclusive activities for all children.

It’s a job with lots of variety, from assisting with play-based learning activities to helping with daily care routines and maintaining a safe and clean environment. It does involve lifting, carrying, and moving children and objects, as well as working at lower levels, such as on the floor or using small furniture.

A kindergarten placement typically involves up to 30 hours per week during the school term. The hours vary between 8:15 am and 5:00 pm, depending on each kindergarten's service schedule.

Our Additional Assistants are provided a comprehensive induction and access to ongoing supervision and support from the Kindergarten Inclusion Support team.

Benefits of working at Uniting

  • Be part of a team helping children of all abilities thrive in their kindergarten.
  • Receive a 10% discount on the childcare subsidy gap fee at Uniting Early Learning.
  • Up to 10 weeks of paid parental leave for primary caregivers (4 for secondary).
  • Access training and development opportunities to help you grow.
  • Enjoy a 25% discount at Uniting Op Shops.

About you

We are looking for motivated self-starters who like using their initiative and feel confident to work in a new team and work environment.

You might have some experience working with children and are curious about a career in early childhood education and care, or you may be an educator returning to work or winding back your career.

What you will demonstrate is good communication skills and be a team player, you will have worked with children in some capacity and have the computer skills to navigate and access our systems to submit requests and participate in our organisation.
