What they need

Additive Manufacturing Technician — MJF

Empire Group is seeking a hands-on Additive Manufacturing Technician to support daily operations within our additive manufacturing team. This position will focus primarily on Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) production, equipment operation, and post-processing.

Working under the direction of the Additive Manufacturing Technical Lead, the technician will assist with build preparation, powder management, machine operation, part unpacking, depowdering, bead blasting, dyeing, hardware installation, inspection, and production staging.

The technician will take ownership of the hands-on post-processing workflow and help move printed parts efficiently from completed builds through inspection and final production readiness. The position may also assist with FDM, SLA, finishing, assembly, and other production activities as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily MJF printing and production activities.
  • Prepare builds and assist with machine setup, operation, monitoring, and job staging.
  • Handle polymer powders safely, including loading, recovery, storage, and material organization.
  • Unpack MJF builds and complete depowdering, cleaning, bead blasting, dyeing, sorting, and staging.
  • Install heat-set inserts and other hardware in accordance with drawings, work instructions, and quality requirements.
  • Inspect parts during post-processing and identify defects, damage, missing components, dimensional concerns, or other inconsistencies.
  • Follow established work instructions, production travelers, quality standards, and scheduling priorities.
  • Maintain clearly organized staging areas for printed, cleaned, inspected, rework, and completed parts.
  • Perform routine machine cleaning, preventive maintenance, consumable changes, and equipment-readiness checks.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including job status, quantities, scrap, rework, machine logs, insert counts, and post-processing notes.
  • Assist with FDM and SLA production, including part removal, support removal, resin cleaning, curing, sanding, and staging.
  • Coordinate with finishing, painting, quality, and production personnel to keep work moving efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized production environment.
  • Follow all PPE, equipment-safety, powder-handling, and housekeeping requirements.
  • Perform other additive manufacturing and production-support duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing, production, machine operation, shop work, finishing, assembly, or a related hands-on technical field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with production equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow written instructions consistently.
  • Ability to handle small parts, track quantities, and keep multiple jobs organized.
  • Ability to recognize visible defects, damage, missing parts, installation problems, and other production concerns.
  • Basic computer skills for job tracking, documentation, and production records.
  • Ability to work safely around powders, compressed air, heated tools, blasting equipment, and industrial machinery.
  • Dependable, organized, and capable of working independently or as part of a production team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with additive manufacturing or industrial 3D printing.
  • Experience with MJF, SLS, SLA, FDM, or comparable additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience with depowdering, bead blasting, dyeing, sanding, support removal, resin cleaning, curing, or other post-processing methods.
  • Experience installing heat-set inserts or other hardware in manufactured parts.
  • Ability to read production travelers, technical drawings, work instructions, and inspection requirements.
  • Experience working in a quality-controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, shop equipment, heated tools, pallet jacks, and material-handling equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform hands-on work for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift and handle parts, powder containers, consumables, and production materials as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand movements and detailed part-handling tasks.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and work safely around powders, compressed air, heated tools, blasting equipment, resin systems, 3D printers, and other industrial equipment.
