Job Summary

The College of St. Scholastica invites applications for an adjunct chemistry lab instructor. The department has 8 full-time chemistry and biochemistry faculty as well as additional faculty in math and physics. The department is welcoming of adjunct faculty and happy to have them involved in departmental activities if desired by the adjunct.

The successful applicant will teach introductory chemistry labs including General Chemistry 1 (CHM 1110), General Chemistry 2 (CHM 1120), and/or General, Organic, and Biochemistry for Health Science Majors (CHM 1040). The lab curriculum and assessment structure will be provided, although opportunity exists to engage with full time faculty in curriculum development if there is interest. Lab sections are 2 hours each and taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The department’s adjunct teaching needs vary each term based on enrollment – but likely will be between 1-3 lab sections.

The individual hired will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching. The department values diversity among its faculty and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Masters degree in chemistry or a closely-related field.
  • Ability to teach in person on the Duluth campus on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays.

  • Ability to effectively guide introductory chemistry students through the lab activities within the time allotted each week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching introductory college chemistry courses.
  • Experience teaching and/or working in lab settings.
