Position Title:

About the Role:

The Counseling Program at Northern Kentucky University invites applications on an ongoing basis from qualified professionals interested in serving as part-time adjunct faculty. Applications will be maintained in a pool of prospective instructors and reviewed as instructional needs arise. Inclusion in the applicant pool does not guarantee a teaching assignment.

The Counseling Program offers CACREP-accredited graduate programs/specializations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. Adjunct faculty may be considered to teach in-person graduate courses in either specialization, including knowledge- and skills-based courses as well as courses involving clinical supervision, such as practicum and internship. Course assignments are based on program needs, candidate qualifications, areas of expertise, and availability. ‌

Primary Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty are expected to:

  • Teach assigned graduate counseling courses in accordance with university and program policies and applicable CACREP accreditation standards.
  • Facilitate student learning through effective instruction, engagement, feedback, and assessment.
  • Assess student achievement of designated course and CACREP learning outcomes.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with students and program faculty.
  • Provide in-person office hours and be reasonable availability to enrolled students.
  • For clinical courses, provide supervision and evaluate student development in accordance with program requirements, professional standards, and applicable accreditation requirements. Complete required course-related documentation and assessment activities within established program and university timelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

  • A master’s degree or higher in counseling, preferably from a CACREP-accredited counseling program.
  • Appropriate professional licensure or certification relevant to the candidate’s area of practice (e.g., clinical mental health counseling or school counseling).
  • Professional experience relevant to the courses the candidate may be assigned to teach.
  • Demonstrated ability to support graduate-level student learning and professional development.

Candidates considered for courses involving clinical supervision must meet applicable program, professional, and CACREP requirements for supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:

  • A doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Previous experience teaching or co-teaching graduate counseling courses, particularly within a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to counseling students or practicing counselors.
  • Current professional licensure or certification as a clinical mental health counselor, school counselor, or other credential appropriate to the assigned course. Professional expertise aligned with current program instructional needs.

Required Application Materials

Applicants should submit:

  • Curriculum vitae or résumé.
  • Cover letter describing relevant teaching, counseling, and/or supervision experience and areas of instructional expertise.
  • Sample syllabi from graduate courses previously taught or co-taught, if applicable.
  • Evidence of current professional licensure and/or certification.
  • Contact information for three professional references.
  • Unofficial graduate transcripts.

Applications will be reviewed as instructional needs arise. Candidates whose qualifications align with available courses may be contacted by the Counseling Program for additional information or an interview. Appointment to the adjunct faculty pool does not guarantee a course assignment. ‌
