About Imatech Joinery Services

Imatech Joinery Services Pty Ltd is a well-established, Australian-owned joinery business based in Hobart, Tasmania. We specialise in high-quality bespoke and heritage timber joinery, delivering premium outcomes across residential, commercial and restoration projects.

Our Cambridge facility combines traditional joinery expertise with modern manufacturing technology, including advanced CNC machinery and specialist design and production systems.

We are looking for someone who is keen to learn, enjoys variety and is interested in developing a long-term career within our business.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and organised Administration & Drafting Trainee to join our Cambridge team.

This is a full-time hybrid position combining essential business administration responsibilities with structured training and development in technical drafting, estimating and production design.

You will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day administration of our joinery operations, including job setup, purchase orders, timesheets, customer enquiries and project documentation.

Alongside these responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to develop technical skills through practical workplace training and a proposed engineering/drafting traineeship.

Working closely with our experienced team, you will progressively learn about timber joinery drafting, CAD software including SolidWorks, estimating and production documentation.

This role offers the best of both worlds: a hands-on administration position with a genuine opportunity to develop specialist technical skills and build a long-term career.

Key Responsibilities

Administration & Business Support

  • Coordinate day-to-day administration and general office activities.
  • Assist with job setup, purchase orders, timesheets and project documentation.
  • Respond to customer and supplier enquiries via phone and email.
  • Assist with supplier invoices, job tracking and general accounts administration.
  • Maintain accurate job records, documentation and filing systems.
  • Provide administrative support to the workshop, estimating and management teams.

Drafting, Estimating & Technical Development

  • Learn to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Develop CAD and technical drawing skills, including exposure to SolidWorks.
  • Assist with timber joinery drawings, drawing amendments and production documentation.
  • Support basic estimating, material quantities and supplier pricing.
  • Develop an understanding of timber joinery manufacturing, materials and production processes.
  • Work alongside experienced team members to progressively build technical capability.
  • Participate in structured training and assessments associated with the traineeship.

About You

Previous drafting, estimating or design experience is not required. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, aptitude and a genuine interest in developing their skills.

To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good computer skills and confidence learning new systems.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Sound numeracy skills and an interest in technical drawing or design.
  • A proactive, reliable and team-focused approach.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and balance administration duties with ongoing learning.
  • A willingness to take on feedback and develop new skills.
  • An interest in joinery, engineering, manufacturing or how things are designed and made.

Previous exposure to administration, Microsoft Excel, CAD, technical drawing, engineering or manufacturing would be highly regarded but is not essential.

School leavers and early-career applicants are encouraged to apply.

What's in it for you?

As a valued Imatech team member, you will receive:

  • Exposure to SolidWorks, CAD, estimating and timber joinery production.
  • Support and mentoring from experienced team members.
