Advanced ADAS Diagnostic Technician

Location: Miami-Dade County, FL
Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

A growing automotive services company in South Florida is seeking an experienced Advanced ADAS Diagnostic Technician with a strong background in automotive diagnostics, electrical systems, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

This is an advanced technical position for a technician who can do more than perform calibrations. The ideal candidate should be capable of diagnosing why a vehicle or ADAS system is not functioning or calibrating correctly, performing electrical testing, interpreting wiring diagrams and diagnostic trouble codes, and completing authorized minor electrical and wiring repairs.

The technician will perform static and dynamic ADAS calibrations while also diagnosing camera, radar, sensor, communication, wiring, and electrical concerns affecting ADAS operation.

ASE certifications are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform static, dynamic, and combination ADAS calibrations.
  • Diagnose vehicles that fail or cannot successfully complete an ADAS calibration.
  • Perform comprehensive pre-repair and post-repair diagnostic scans.
  • Read, interpret, and diagnose diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
  • Diagnose forward-facing camera, radar, blind-spot monitoring, ultrasonic sensor, parking-assistance, surround-view camera, and related ADAS concerns.
  • Diagnose vehicle communication and network faults affecting ADAS operation.
  • Use OEM wiring diagrams, connector views, pinout information, diagnostic flow charts, technical service information, and repair procedures.
  • Perform electrical circuit testing using digital multimeters and other appropriate diagnostic equipment.
  • Test circuits for voltage, resistance, continuity, open circuits, shorts to ground, shorts to power, excessive resistance, power, ground, reference voltage, and signal concerns.
  • Diagnose CAN/LIN network communication concerns within the technician's training and available service information.
  • Inspect wiring harnesses, connectors, terminals, grounds, sensors, modules, and related components.
  • Diagnose conditions caused by collision damage, component replacement, damaged wiring, improper installation, connector issues, alignment, structural conditions, or previous repairs.
  • Perform authorized minor wiring-harness, connector, and terminal repairs according to applicable OEM procedures.
  • Perform approved crimping, terminal replacement, sealing, heat-shrink, soldering when specifically permitted, and other appropriate wiring-repair procedures.
  • Replace or properly install minor ADAS-related components when within the authorized repair scope.
  • Verify repairs through diagnostic testing, post-repair scanning, functional checks, and calibration.
  • Determine when a repair or diagnostic concern should be referred to a dealership, collision repair facility, mechanical repair facility, programming specialist, or other qualified provider.
  • Accurately document diagnostic findings, test results, measurements, repairs, DTCs, photographs, and calibration results.
  • Assist other ADAS technicians with difficult calibrations and technical issues as needed.
  • Communicate technical findings professionally with management, collision centers, dealerships, glass companies, and other repair partners.
  • Follow OEM repair procedures, company quality-control standards, safety requirements, and applicable federal, Florida, and Miami-Dade County requirements.

Qualifications

  • Professional automotive diagnostic and/or electrical repair experience required.
  • ASE certifications strongly preferred.
  • Previous ADAS calibration and diagnostic experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting automotive wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency with professional automotive diagnostic scan tools.
  • Proficiency using digital multimeters and performing electrical circuit testing.
  • Understanding of vehicle network communication systems, including CAN/LIN fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of cameras, radar sensors, ultrasonic sensors, blind-spot systems, electronic control modules, and related ADAS components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose calibration failures rather than relying solely on scan-tool instructions.
  • Ability to perform professional wiring, terminal, and connector repairs according to approved procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
  • Strong computer and technology skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain applicable Miami-Dade County Motor Vehicle Mechanic/Technician registration required for assigned duties.

Certifications & Training

ASE certifications are strongly preferred, particularly certifications related to automotive electrical/electronic systems, diagnostics, steering/suspension, and other areas relevant to ADAS diagnosis and calibration.

I-CAR, OEM, ADAS, electrical, collision-repair, and other recognized automotive technical training or certifications are also highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier equipment with appropriate assistance.
  • Ability to move and position ADAS calibration targets, frames, stands, diagnostic equipment, and related tools.
  • Ability to work underneath dashboards, inside vehicle interiors, near bumpers, engine compartments, trunks, and other areas necessary to access wiring and electronic components.
  • Ability to work in kneeling, crouched, seated, or other positions while performing diagnostic and electrical work.
  • Fine manual dexterity necessary for electrical testing, connector disassembly, terminal replacement, wiring repairs, crimping, and handling small electrical components.
  • Ability to repeatedly enter and exit vehicles.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles for dynamic calibrations and verification road tests.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, including typical South Florida heat and humidity.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a technician who is comfortable diagnosing the problem rather than simply identifying that a calibration failed.

A strong candidate should understand automotive electrical systems, know how to use service information and wiring diagrams, be comfortable performing circuit testing, and be capable of working through a diagnostic process to determine the actual cause of an ADAS-related concern.

Candidates with strong ASE credentials, dealership diagnostic experience, collision-repair diagnostic experience, OEM training, I-CAR training, or extensive automotive electrical experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Equal Opportunity Employer

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and consider qualified applicants without regard to any status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. Reasonable accommodations are available to qualified individuals with disabilities as required by law.
