Whitley Automotive

$60,000 - $100,000+ Performance-Based Pay

About Us:

Do Good Work. Keep Learning. Have a Life Outside the Shop.

At Whitley Automotive, we believe great technicians deserve more than a steady stream of repair orders. They deserve a team that has their back, the right equipment to do the job properly, opportunities to keep improving, and time to enjoy life outside the shop.

Here, you'll work alongside technicians who share information, help each other through difficult diagnoses, and take pride in getting repairs right. You'll have a voice in how things are done, and you'll work with an owner who still understands what it's like to turn wrenches.

We don't believe in rushing through cars just to increase the count. We'd rather take the time to diagnose a problem correctly, communicate what we found, and deliver a repair we can stand behind.

And when Thursday evening rolls around, your weekend begins.

If you're an experienced technician who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in your workmanship, and wants to keep growing without sacrificing your personal life, we'd like to meet you.

Compensation, Schedule & Benefits:

  • Annual earning potential: $60,000–$100,000+, based on experience, skills, and production.
  • Flexible pay structure: Flat rate or a hybrid hourly-plus-production-bonus plan, depending on experience and preference.
  • Four-day workweek: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM.
  • Three-day weekends: Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.
  • Health insurance: Two plan options, including an employee-only plan fully paid by the company.
  • Retirement: SIMPLE IRA with up to a 3% company match.
  • Paid time off: Starts after six months and grows with tenure, up to 120 hours annually after five years.
  • Eight paid holidays annually.
  • Paid training and certifications: Including ASE testing support and a $1,000 bonus for achieving ASE Master Technician status.
  • Uniforms and laundry service provided.
  • Quarterly compensation reviews, with opportunities for increases based on skills, certifications, and performance.

Training & Growth:

Training isn't something we talk about once a year.

We believe technicians should have the opportunity to earn more as their knowledge, efficiency, and abilities grow.

Our lead technician provides an hour of guided technical instruction each week. We also participate in outside training, host educational opportunities, and attend industry events such as ASTA.

We've helped four technicians earn ASE Master Technician status, and we're proud that our longtime shop foreman has grown with us over the past 12 years.

There's also an opportunity to share what you know. We work with local high schools and technical programs to introduce younger people to the trade, and our technicians help mentor apprentices and developing team members.

You won't be expected to know everything, but you should be someone who enjoys learning, sharing knowledge, and helping the people around you improve.

What We Do:

Our six-bay shop works primarily on domestic and Asian vehicles, including light-duty diesel trucks. You'll encounter a mix of maintenance, mechanical repairs, and challenging diagnostic work, with limited European vehicle exposure.

A typical workload includes:

  • Approximately 50% mechanical repairs
  • Approximately 30% maintenance
  • Approximately 20% diagnostics and testing

We use Tekmetric for shop management and digital vehicle inspections, along with diagnostic equipment from Snap-on, Autel, Pico, and Bartec. Specialty tools are provided by the shop.

Our shop is heated, though not air-conditioned, and includes a dedicated breakroom with a full kitchen.

We also place a strong emphasis on documenting repairs properly. That means explaining what caused the problem, what corrected it, and how the repair was verified. Technicians participate in digital vehicle inspections, including customer-facing videos that help people understand what's happening with their vehicles.

What You'll Be Doing:

We're looking for an experienced, well-rounded technician who can confidently handle mechanical repairs while also approaching diagnostics with a clear, logical thought process.

You'll be involved in:

  • Diagnosing and repairing domestic and Asian vehicles, including light-duty diesel applications.
  • Performing advanced brake, steering, suspension, and cooling system repairs.
  • Handling engine repairs, timing components, and transmission or driveline removal and replacement.
  • Diagnosing electrical, drivability, and intermittent concerns.
  • Using wiring diagrams, scan data, DVOMs, and advanced diagnostic equipment to identify problems.
  • Interpreting test results and developing a repair strategy rather than simply replacing parts based on fault codes.
  • Performing thorough inspections and documenting findings clearly.
  • Working closely with service advisors to communicate accurate repair recommendations.
  • Helping younger technicians and apprentices develop their skills.

This is a position where you'll have independence and responsibility, but you won't have to work through every difficult problem alone.

What We're Looking For:

You don't need every certification or decades of experience to be successful here. What matters most is having solid technical ability, a good diagnostic mindset, and the willingness to continue improving.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Professional automotive repair experience with the ability to complete mechanical repairs independently.
  • Strong understanding of automotive systems and repair procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical and drivability concerns using appropriate testing methods.
  • Comfortable using scan tools, live data, wiring diagrams, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Ability to communicate repair findings clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Personal set of basic professional automotive tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, productivity, and quality workmanship.
  • Willingness to collaborate with coworkers and help developing technicians.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of professional automotive repair experience.
  • ASE certifications, particularly ASE Master Technician with L1 or L2.
  • Experience with advanced electrical diagnostics, network communication systems, and module testing.
  • Familiarity with oscilloscopes, pressure transducers, and other advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience working with domestic and Asian vehicles, including light-duty diesel.
  • Ability to mentor less-experienced technicians.

Come Build Something You're Proud Of:

At Whitley Automotive, you'll find a shop where your experience is respected, your development matters, and your time outside work is valued.

We're serious about doing quality work, but we also believe the best shops are built by people who enjoy working together, trust each other, and take pride in helping the next technician get better.

If that sounds like the kind of place you'd enjoy spending your workweek, we'd welcome the opportunity to talk.
