Advanced Practice Nurse - Health Informatics

Summary The Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System (ICVAHCS) is seeking a Full-Time - Advanced Practice Nurse - Nurse Practitioner - Health Informatics to join the Chief of Staff Service Line at the VAMC in Iowa City - Iowa. Note: This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT through December 17 - 2026. The first referral cut-off is September 22 - 2026 - at 11:59 p.m. EST - followed by weekly cut offs. Applications received after each cut-off will be reviewed as needed until the position is filled.

Duties

• The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers

• The NP has expertise in health informatics (HI) and health information technology
• The incumbent is expected to be a strong agent for change and must demonstrate an ability to understand the needs of their professional counterparts - demonstrate understanding of the organizational structure - and the role that informatics plays across the enterprise
• The Informaticist should demonstrate the following core informatics functions at the intermediate to advanced proficiency level to include content management - application support - health information technology system optimization - enterprise data management - business architecture management - partnership management - requirements management - and change management
• The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients
• Clinical duties and responsibilities of the position: Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice
• Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management
• Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team
• Order and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
• Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
• Initiates referrals and consults on specialty services
• Provides education to patients and their families
• Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes
