Therapy has no scalable quality measure. The U.S. spent $51 billion on psychotherapy in 2021, yet 62% of clinicians never use a standardized progress measure, and payers cannot tell effective care from ineffective care. Expert session review is the established way to verify quality, but it costs $300 to $400 and 90 minutes of a trained rater for a single session. That is why almost no one does it.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) shows the gap clearly. It is the most rigorously specified therapy there is, with a manual, a coding scale, and a certification board. Nearly 9,000 U.S. facilities offer DBT. Only 38 programs are certified.

Therassist.AI automated the expert rater. From one session recording, the platform's AI produces a clinical note and a session quality scorecard, scores the session against the DBT Adherence Checklist for Individual Therapy (DBT AC-I), and coaches the clinician on what to do differently next week. What took a trained rater 90 minutes now takes about one minute, which is what makes scoring every session possible instead of a sampled few. The platform is EHR-agnostic and runs inside a practice's existing workflow. CBT competence scoring is in development.

Therassist.AI was founded by David Lischner, MD, a psychiatrist and three-time founder. David founded and led Valant, the leading behavioral health EHR, and has two behavioral health SaaS exits, including a nine-figure outcome in 2023. Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer Melanie Harned, PhD, ABPP, created the DBT AC-I. Therassist.AI holds exclusive rights to its AI implementation, along with an expert-annotated dataset that grows with every scored session.

Master services agreement signed with a behavioral health organization of roughly 1,600 clinicians, starting with about 25 clinicians in its DBT program

357 clinical notes and 53 quality scorecards generated in the week ending September 5, up from 241 notes in a week in June

NPS of 75 from the first fully live pilot

Formal validation underway, with 31 sessions reviewed against expert raters across 7 practices and 19 therapists

Advisory Board Role

Therassist.AI is building its advisory board as the company converts its founding cohort from pilot to paid, expands into large behavioral health organizations, and prepares for its seed round. We are looking for senior leaders who can:

Open doors to behavioral health organizations, health systems, and payers

Advise on enterprise go-to-market, pricing, and the pilot-to-paid transition

Guide strategy on payer quality programs and value-based behavioral health contracting

Share operating lessons from founding, scaling, and exiting healthcare and technology companies

Make introductions across healthcare, technology, and venture networks

Serve as a trusted sounding board to the founding team through the seed stage

Apply If You Are...

A founder, CEO, or C-suite executive who has founded, scaled, sold, or exited a healthcare, healthtech, or SaaS company

A healthcare executive at the VP level or above in a health system, payer, or provider organization, with a track record of building or scaling a business

A behavioral health executive with P&L, operations, or clinical leadership responsibility across a multi-site organization

A psychiatrist, psychologist, or therapist who has founded, scaled, or sold a practice or group

A payer or health system leader responsible for behavioral health quality, networks, or value-based care

Direct experience with DBT, CBT, or evidence-based psychotherapy programs is a strong plus.
