Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated, energetic, and responsible Lead Teacher to oversee our After School Care Program for children aged 4 to 10 (Pre-K, Kindergarten through 4th grade). In this role, you will create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment during the afternoon hours. The ideal candidate must have the flexibility to work full 8-hour shifts on designated "No School" days (such as teacher planning days, winter/spring breaks, or select holidays) to provide full-day care for our students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily Student Pickup & Transit: Walk daily to the neighboring elementary school to safely gather, and escort participating children back to our facility, maintaining strict headcounts and safety protocols during transit.
  • Program Leadership & Supervision: Lead daily afternoon activities, ensuring the constant safety, well-being, and active supervision of all students.
  • Curriculum & Activities: Plan and implement a balanced daily schedule suited for K-4th graders, including healthy snacks, homework assistance, outdoor recreation, arts and crafts, and structured group games.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain positive behavior management strategies that encourage teamwork, respect, and personal growth among elementary-age children.
  • Sign-In/Sign-Out Security: Oversee daily attendance tracking, ensuring students are accurately checked in upon arrival and released only to authorized parents or guardians at the end of the day.
  • Parent & Staff Communication: Provide regular, professional updates to parents regarding their child’s progress or behavior, and collaborate effectively with program assistants and school administration.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic environment. Promptly report and document any incidents, injuries, or safety concerns according to program policies.
  • School Closure Full-Day Programming: Plan, adapt, and lead full 8-hour daily schedules on "No School" days, incorporating extended enrichment activities, field trips, or themed project-based learning.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Availability: Must be able to work regular afternoon hours (1:30 PM – 6:15 PM) and transition to full 8-hour shifts on days when the local elementary school is closed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required (Degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field is highly preferred).
  • Proven experience working with school-age children (ages 4–10) in a camp, after-school program, childcare center, or classroom setting.
  • Ability to walk outdoors in various weather conditions to facilitate the daily school pickup.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Have current R number with Oregon Criminal background Registry
  • Completed the required safety set training required by the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care.

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
  • Consistent, predictable weekday schedule with weekends off.
  • Opportunities for increased hours/pay during full-day school closures.
  • Opportunities for professional development in education and childcare.

Join us in shaping bright futures by providing a fun-filled, safe environment where children can thrive! This role is ideal for passionate individuals eager to lead with energy, foster growth in young learners, and build lasting community connections all while making a positive difference every day.

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
