After School STEM Instructor, Electronics and Circuits (Part-Time, Start Now)

Bay Area Bright Minds runs small, hands-on after-school STEM classes inside elementary schools. We need a Circuit Builders instructor now for our Tuesday class (2:45 to 3:45 PM) in the South Bay, with more classes in Mountain View, Los Altos, Sunnyvale, and Cupertino starting in January. One class a week, same day and time all term.

THE CLASS

Circuit Builders teaches kids to build real electronic circuits, one puzzle at a time. Make the fan spin, sound the alarm, light the bulb two different ways. When a circuit fails, you coach students to figure out why and fix it.

Level 1 is grades 1 to 5. Level 2 is grades 3 to 6 and adds transistors, capacitors, logic gates, and multimeter readings. We give you a tested curriculum and every part. Classes cap at 12 students, and you keep the same group all term.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Strong classroom management. This class is hands-on and busy, with twelve kids, small parts, and a lot of excitement. You have run a room of elementary kids on your own and kept it calm, on task, and fun. Tell us how you do it.

Real experience teaching or leading kids in grades 1 to 6. Classroom, camp, tutoring, and coaching all count. A STEM degree or an education background is strongly preferred.

Comfort with basic electronics. For Level 2, you can use a multimeter and explain what a transistor does to a nine-year-old.

Tuesday afternoons free for the current class, plus other weekday afternoons after 2:00 PM for January. You must be 20 or older and able to clear Live Scan fingerprinting and a TB test before your first class. We start onboarding as soon as you accept. A teaching credential is welcome but not required.

ABOUT SHOWING UP

A school gives us a room and a time slot, and twelve families build their week around it. Be on site 15 minutes early, every week, for the full term. No cancellations outside a real emergency. We would take someone with steady attendance and a calm hand in the classroom over a stronger resume.

WHO THIS WORKS FOR

Classroom teachers, substitutes, and retired teachers who want a steady afternoon class. Grad students and undergrads who have led groups of kids and will be here a few more years. Parents back on school hours and career changers moving into education on purpose.

PAY

$40 to $60 an hour for teaching and setup, based on experience. Paid training at $20 an hour. W-2. Your slot is set before the term starts, so you can plan around it.

• This role is the same weekday afternoon every week for a full term. Instructors arrive 15 minutes early every session and do not cancel. Can you commit to every session of a full term, starting now through June? Answer yes or no and note any dates you already know you would miss.
• Briefly describe your experience teaching or leading children in grades 1-6: where, how long, and which ages. Then describe one time a group of kids got off track and what you did.
• List your availability for EVERY weekday after 2:00 PM. Use this format: Mon 3-5, Tue none, Wed 2-6, Thu 3-4, Fri none.
