After-School STEM Instructor — Elementary Education

Whiz Kid Academy is seeking enthusiastic, dependable educators to join our after-school STEM enrichment team in Washington, DC!

Our programs combine LEGO building, storytelling, science, engineering, and creative problem-solving to create engaging educational experiences for elementary school students.

We provide the curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials. You bring the enthusiasm, classroom management skills, and passion for helping children succeed!

Position Responsibilities

Lead Instructors:

• Deliver engaging STEM lessons using Whiz Kid Academy's prepared curriculum.
• Guide students through hands-on LEGO engineering challenges.
• Establish a positive, structured classroom environment.
• Manage student behavior and maintain student safety.
• Collaborate with Assistant Instructors to ensure smooth transitions.
• Maintain accurate attendance and complete required documentation.

Assistant Instructors:

• Support the Lead Instructor during lessons and activities.
• Assist students with LEGO building challenges.
• Help manage classroom behavior and student transitions.
• Supervise students during arrival and dismissal.
• Assist with classroom preparation, cleanup, and materials management.

Compensation & Schedule

Lead Instructor: $60 per session
Assistant Instructor: $40 per session

Each session requires a total commitment of 90 minutes:

• 15 minutes before class for preparation and setup.
• 60 minutes of STEM instruction.
• 15 minutes after class for student dismissal, cleanup, and classroom restoration.

Compensation is a flat rate per session, not an hourly rate.

Classes take place on weekday afternoons at participating elementary schools.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching, supervising, or working with elementary-aged children.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Dependable, punctual, and organized.
• Comfortable following a structured curriculum.
• Willing to collaborate and support fellow instructors.
• Reliable transportation to assigned school locations.
• Ability to complete required background checks and school clearances.

Teaching experience is preferred. STEM or LEGO experience is helpful but not required.

Pay: $26.62 - $32.06 per hour
