What they need
Aftersales Engineer — RootWave
*Note that Anthology is managing this hiring process on behalf of RootWave, all enquiries should therefore go to [email protected]*
RootWave kills weeds with electricity instead of chemicals. The technology is patented, it’s winning awards, and it’s now going out to growers across Europe as a commercial product rather than a demonstrator.
A small team currently covers aftersales, field service and technical support for the entire installed base. This will be a key hire to support those functions.
The role
You’ll be the link between machines in the field and the engineering team at Kineton.
That means providing technical support to distributors, dealers and growers - remotely where you can, on site when needed. We need somebody who can address engineering related issues (mechanical), interpret what a customer is telling you, work out what’s actually happening, and - for more complex cases - escalate the issue and be the bridge to RootWave's other engineering teams.
With some significant upgrades coming, there'll be a real volume of hands-on work alongside the support side. Between field trips you’ll be based at Kineton, working on the machines directly; build, assembly, fitting and general mechanical work.
You'll get the chance to see directly how this cutting edge technology behaves in real orchards and vineyards, with your learnings and insights helping to shape future product developments.
What we’re looking for
- A background in agricultural machinery - dealership, manufacturer or contractor side, in service, field service or technical support. (Technical / engineering backgrounds in other similar sectors could be considered, for example construction, and experience working on products that operate in challenging and changing outdoor environments. A genuine interest in agriculture would also go a long way... so if you have a specific link to the sector but have ended up building your career in other areas, we'd still be interested in hearing from you!).
- Mechanical skills first, with hydraulics. A working understanding of electrical systems and a healthy respect for high voltage - you won’t be expected to diagnose the power electronics, but you do need to know where the line is that means an issue needs escalating.
- The ability to translate between a non-technical customer and a highly technical engineering team, in both directions.
- Full UK driving licence (with towing entitlement being highly beneficial).
- A genuine interest in agriculture.
Formal qualifications aren’t imperative. What matters more is adaptability, resourcefulness, and knowing when to escalate versus tackling something yourself.
Important to know
With this being a small team, you’ll need to arrive able to hit the ground running and often work unsupervised. Hours can fluctuate and be season affected; normal for much of the year, but with greater unpredictability and sometimes longer days during peak periods. There’s UK travel year-round and European trips roughly every four to six weeks.
