Job Overview

GB Ferry is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Shipping Agent to manage cargo bookings, documentation, and customer coordination for our vessel operations. This role is essential to keeping freight moving on schedule and ensuring every shipment is booked, documented, and staged correctly for sailing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Process cargo bookings and confirm space on scheduled sailings.
• Prepare and review shipping documents, including bills of lading, manifests, invoices, and customer paperwork.
• Coordinate with warehouse staff, porters, reservation agents, and vessel crew to ensure cargo is received, labeled, and staged on time.
• Communicate with customers, vendors, and partners regarding booking status, cut-off times, cargo requirements, and sailing updates.
• Track cargo from intake through loading and confirm shipments match the vessel manifest.
• Assist with customs, port, and regulatory documentation as required.
• Resolve booking issues, discrepancies, and last-minute cargo changes.
• Maintain accurate records in company systems and follow up until each shipment is complete.
• Support office and operations teams as needed to keep sailings on schedule.

Qualifications, Requirements & Skills

• Experience in shipping, freight forwarding, logistics, cargo operations, or a related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge of shipping documentation (bills of lading, manifests, invoices) is an asset.
• Excellent communication, organization, and follow-up skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and comfort working with digital booking or logistics systems.
• Ability to work independently, multitask, and stay accurate under deadline pressure.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license (asset).
• Clean police record.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is an asset.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and holidays based on vessel operations.
• Dependable team player committed to accuracy, customer service, and operational standards.
