Assistant General Manager / Head Barista

The Uncommon is coming to London.

Born in the UAE and known for its striking design, specialty coffee and immersive hospitality, The Uncommon is opening its first London location in Knightsbridge.

We’re looking for an exceptional Assistant General Manager / Head Barista to join our opening management team and help shape our coffee culture from day one.

This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role. You’ll work closely with the General Manager, lead and develop our barista team, take ownership of coffee quality and training, and help create the service standards and culture that will define The Uncommon in London.

It’s an ideal opportunity for an experienced Head Barista ready to take the next step into management, or an Assistant Manager with strong specialty coffee experience looking for greater ownership.

What you’ll be doing

• Taking ownership of coffee quality and consistency across the site
• Dialling in and maintaining espresso recipes and standards
• Training, coaching and developing our barista team
• Leading shifts and supporting the General Manager with daily operations
• Helping recruit, onboard and develop the opening team
• Delivering exceptional hospitality and guest experiences
• Supporting rota planning, team deployment and labour management
• Assisting with stock management, ordering and waste control
• Maintaining high operational, cleanliness and food safety standards
• Taking responsibility for the site when the General Manager is away
• Helping shape our coffee programme, procedures and service standards from the beginning
• Supporting the General Manager with sales, costs and operational performance

Who we’re looking for

You could currently be a:

• Head Barista
• Coffee Manager
• Senior Barista ready for your next step
• Assistant Manager with strong specialty coffee experience

You’ll need excellent practical coffee skills, confidence leading people and a genuine passion for hospitality.

We’re particularly interested in people who enjoy developing others, care about the details and want the opportunity to help build something rather than simply step into an established operation.

You’ll be:

• Confident with espresso preparation, dial-in and milk texturing
• Comfortable coaching and developing other baristas
• A natural leader on the floor
• Calm and organised during busy services
• Commercially aware and interested in the wider operation
• Warm, engaging and genuinely passionate about guest experience
• Comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions
• Excited about joining a new opening and helping shape the culture from day one

Why The Uncommon?

You’ll be joining the opening management team of an international café concept and will have genuine influence over how The Uncommon develops in London.

You’ll work closely with the General Manager and Founder while developing your experience across specialty coffee, people leadership and hospitality management.

This is more than a traditional Head Barista position. It’s an opportunity to take the next step into broader management while continuing to lead a coffee programme you can be proud of.

Salary: £30,000–£35,000 per annum, depending on experience
Location: Knightsbridge, London
Full-time | Weekend availability required
