AI & Software Development Apprentice

Hands-On AI & Software Development Apprentice

Full-time apprenticeship | Northampton | On site

Cybist has an exceptional opportunity for a bright, creative and ambitious aspiring software developer to turn a passion for AI into a career, helping build intelligent applications and integrations that make a real difference to a growing business.

About Cybist

We are a rapidly growing eco tech business, giving high-quality computers and IT equipment a second life, reducing electronic waste and making technology more accessible. Visit cybist.com or visit our Amazon webstore.

Our small, friendly, professional team has big ambitions. We are rapidly integrating AI into our software and business systems, developing tools for product identification, listing creation, app integration and commercial decision-making.

Our commitment to creating opportunities for young people has been recognised with a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Kickstart award. We are also engaging with Amazon’s US team on advanced listing and multichannel selling tools, contributing practical feedback from our own development and commercial experience.

You will learn how AI and software can support our work streams - and you will be hands-on and carry out work with the equipment and processes.

As your skills develop, the role can evolve around your strengths, interests and the needs of the business.

What you will work on

• Building and testing AI-assisted applications for real business use.
• Connecting apps and services through APIs and tools such as Zapier, Make and n8n.
• Developing software that supports product listings, ecommerce and our internal operational systems.
• Supporting practical production and stock workflows, using our mobile app to capture product information and photographs, and helping organise equipment in the correct stock areas.
• Working with code, databases and AI tools to solve practical problems.
• Exploring new ideas and helping turn the best ones into reliable, useful applications.

Who we are looking for

Someone with exceptional enthusiasm for AI and software, strong technical curiosity and the determination to work things out.

You should already be experimenting with coding, AI tools or automation. Personal projects, college work, a useful script, an app integration or something you have built for fun can all demonstrate your potential.

Some familiarity with coding would be useful, whether in Python, JavaScript or another language. We also value creativity, clear thinking, attention to detail and the ability to work well with others.

What you will gain

• Structured apprenticeship training, a recognised qualification and paid time for learning.
• Practical support and mentoring within a small team.
• Experience developing software and AI integrations used in a real business.
• The chance to contribute ideas and take increasing responsibility as your skills grow.
• A foundation for a career in software development, AI and automation.

How to apply

To help your application stand out, please send your CV with a short cover letter explaining:

• Why this opportunity interests you.
• Why you think you would be especially good at it, including examples of anything you have built or explored.
• When you would be available to come in, meet the team and attend an interview.

Links to projects, GitHub repositories, screenshots or a short demonstration are welcome. Tell us what you personally contributed and what you learned.

If you have the curiosity to explore, the creativity to build and the ambition to keep improving, we would like to hear from you.
