AI Data Engineer

About the role

As an AI Data Engineer at SEFAR FABRICATION (M) SDN BHD, you will build and manage the data backbone that powers Sefar's artificial intelligence capabilities. This full-time position is based in Taman Desa Cemerlang Johor and will involve to design, create and maintain robust data pipelines and infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform to ensure our AI applications are fueled by high-quality, timely and well-structured data, with a key focus on enabling advanced techniques like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)

What you'll be doing

1. Design, build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to process structured and unstructured data from enterprise sources
2. Manage the data lifecycle for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), including ingestion, cleaning, transformation, chunking and embedding generation
3. Architect and manage data infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Data flow) to support AI development
4. Implement processes and tools to ensure the quality, integrity, availability and governance of data used in AI solutions
5. Analyze structured and unstructured datasets to identify patterns, insights and relevant data sources for AI use cases.
6. Extract, structure and prepare data to enable reliable RAG systems and AI-driven analysis

What we're looking for

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
2. Proven experience in data engineering, data pipelines, or large-scale data processing
3. Strong experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration
4. Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Data flow) or comparable cloud platforms
5. Knowledge of data modeling, data architecture and data governance principles
6. Experience handling structured and unstructured data sources
7. Familiarity with RAG concepts, embeddings and vector databases is a strong advantage
8. Proficiency in Python and SQL for data processing and transformation
9. Experience with data exploration and analysis to identify relevant data sources and insights
10. Understanding of AI / machine learning workflows and how data supports AI applications
11. Ability to work collaboratively with technical and business stakeholders
12. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
13. Good communication skills in English
